Re: AMD Ryzen system crashes with 4.10+ series kernels

Posting here on this thread again because my problem remains unresolved. Things I've tried in the intervening months: 1: Disabling global c states, first in the BIOS. 2 then by compiling a custom kernel with the no_cb option as mentioned above. Finally, I broke down and bought a new CPU, assuming th...

Kodi monitor mirroring w/external display - Nvidia Driver

I built a media box with an Nvidia card to replace an aging machine and I'm trying to make the transition as seamless as possible for the primary user. I have two displays that I need to use with the machine: an always-on 4:3 monitor connected via DVI and an "off-when-not-actively watching a movie" ...

Television/Monitor configuration for media box

I'm working to get a media box up and running. The box it's replacing has two displays: A monitor, resolution 1280x1024, connected with DVI-I. A television (projector), resolution 1280x720, connected with HDMI. Here's what I need: The displays need to be mirrored such that both displays show the sam...

Re: AMD Ryzen system crashes with 4.10+ series kernels

I figured I shouldn't leave this thread hanging like I did the last time I attempted to address this issue. I read through the list posted above by ClixTrix and followed his links. Judging by the relatively light load I was running when my system crashed each time, it would appear that my problem is...

Re: How do I make custom file manager "emblems"

This works to change the entire folder icon (in nemo). My question however was on how to add emblems such that the folder remains recognizable as a folder. Emblems are the small icons which sit on the folders.

Thanks for the advice! Not quite the answer I'm looking for though.

How do I make custom file manager "emblems"

In file managers like nemo and thunar you can right-click on a folder, select properties, then emblems. I know it's possible to add icons to this list because I've done it before, but I can't remember where the files go and how they're referenced. I've been searching for a while and I've come up emp...

Re: System crashes with 4.10+ series kernels

When I do get useful log data it sometimes looks like this: https://pastebin.com/qmcziMtt followed by a large number of null bytes after the system crashes. This error message seems to correspond to a slower crash where the cursor begins stuttering noticeably for a few seconds prior to total meltdown.

AMD Ryzen system crashes with 4.10+ series kernels

My system has been crashing regularly without helpful log data on recent kernels. The sequence of events is thus: 1: While running a 4.8 series kernel I replaced my motherboard, memory and CPU. 2: Linux Mint began using 4.10 series kernels. 3: I updated to the 4.10 series kernels 4: I began experien...

UPDATE: The issue seems to be directly related to bluetooth. If I don't sync my bluetooth headphones my computer seems to run fine without crashing.

Re: Sporadic System Crashes on newer kernel

Update: I updated my Kernel to 4.12.14-041214-generic as suggested and this time when the computer crashed I got actual log data instead of a bunch of null bytes. syslog entries from the crash: Sep 22 16:06:32 user-gaming kernel: [ 380.547871] NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#7 stuck for 23s! Re: Sporadic System Crashes on newer kernel

IOMMU is on. I updated my BIOS to 1.8, so we'll see if that has any effect.

Edit: word.

Sporadic System Crashes on newer kernel

I'll start by saying that I don't know if this is in the correct place on the forum; I don't know the cause of my issue (that's why I'm here!), but I suspect that my problems are hardware/driver related. Installation: LM 18.2 cinnamon Hardware: MSI B350 Tomahawk, Ryzen 5 1600, 8GB Corsair Vengeance ...

Blueberry hangs on launch (bluetooth not responding)

On Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon I use blueberry as my bluetooth manager. I use a USB bluetooth adapter which up to this point has been problem free. Recently I ran into issues after doing some hardware upgrades (replaced RAM, CPU and mobo and moved it all into a new case). Sometimes when I start blueber...

Re: Nvidia driver 367.57 not loading kernel module

Blacklisting the Nouveau driver was sufficient to get Nvidia working, which is odd since I've never had to blacklist it in the past when installing through driver-manager. I am now having issues with missing ttys and being unable to see anything until presented with a login screen, but I think I'll ...

Re: Nvidia driver 367.57 not loading kernel module

@trytip nvidia-xconfig is not installed, nor is it available in any of my repositories. From what I've read it should be included in my driver? @Atypical User I reverted to 4.4.0-45, deleted 47 and then attempted to install the driver again (through driver-manager). I had the same issues as with 47,...

[Solved]Nvidia driver 367.57 not loading kernel module

As a user if linux mint 18, I'm joining the throngs of people having issues with the Nvidia proprietary driver (version 367.57) after the most recent series of kernel/driver updates. After a recent kernel update from 4.4.0-45-generic to 4.4.0-47-generic, my Nvidia driver ceased loading after the reb...
