Re: [Solved] I'd like to use Mint but, two problems...
It is a Ryzen 5 and kernel 5.11.0-25 seems much better than 5.4 was. 5.4 had the double login problem and was just crashing to login screen constantly.

Re: [SOLVED] NVIDIA driver failing sometimes on boot ("no hardware acceleration")
Thanks ROBLM! I also had the blank/empty nvidia-settings and no proper display. This seems to be working for me too.

[Solved] Nvidia driver problem. nvidia-settings is blank/empty
EDIT: The solution in This Thread seems to be working for me. Try this method to load the Nvidia kernel modules a little earlier in the boot process. Use this command to open the modules file: xed admin:///etc/modules Add this at the bottom: nvidia nvidia-drm nvidia-modeset Original post: I've been ...

I shall do that. The Nvidia driver failed.

Re: I'd like to use Mint but, two problems...
It doesn't appear that you've selected an Nvidia driver from the Driver Manager yet. Correct, I am just now doing a clean install, where the log info above came from, so I'm just about to go install the nvidia driver. When I originally posted this topic, I didn't even have Mint installed and was ju...

Re: I'd like to use Mint but, two problems...
I prefer to keep the password at login. However, I updated the kernel to 5.11.0-25-generic, and the double login problem has stopped. Not sure if it was a kernel thing or just some config file that "fixed itself" as a result, but it seems fixed none the less. Now on to the nvidia driver an...

Re: I'd like to use Mint but, two problems...
Edit: Oh...not good. Got it installed, it did the double boot thing right away. Was trying to gather info before doing ANYTHING to the system and it crashed back to the login screen when I clicked on "Desktop" in the control panel. I got a System Report form the very first boot, the "...

Will do, and thanks. I'm about to go give it another whirl. whatever I am doing, it does not affect Manjaro or MX Linux when I install and configure as close as you can get to the exact same way. We shall see!

Re: I'd like to use Mint but, two problems...
Yeah, I figured as much, but was hoping to learn what programs control the login stuff or just any general pointers on what things might cause these sorts of problems. Just where to start looking basically, or things I might want to do differently when installing. Apparently it is from something I d...

[Solved] I'd like to use Mint but, two problems...
EDIT: installed Mint Xfce, info in later post. I do not currently have Linux installed so can't run any commands or provide info yet, but I'd like to ask in advance of trying again if anyone knows anything about two deal breaking issues I've had with every version of Mint since 18.x. Issue #2 is wit...

Fix: Color Profiles not working
If you try to use the new Color Profiles app (mint 19.3 xfce) and it show no devices, it is probably missing a dependency "xiccd".
I installed that and whatever it pulled in, and it fixed it right up so I could point it at my monitors "profile.icm" file.

Re: xfce 4.14
I have Xfce 4.14 on Xubuntu. Got it by adding the Xubuntu Staging PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/staging I'm guessing that won't work for Mint though. I have not run across any bugs or problems so far. The best thing about it to me is it fixes the broken mouse acceleration slider so it...

Re: Pointer speed doesn't work after upgrade
The mouse sliders are broken in all the *buntu 18.04 flavors I have tried. the only "fix" that worked for me was to disable acceleration completely and adjust sensitivity with the mouse hardware (dpi setting) itself. sudo nano /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-mouse-acceleration.conf paste in:...

Re: Updater keeps giving me error message
I'll throw this out there just in case... Since some boneheaded update a few days or week(ish) ago when I run sudo apt-get update or sudo apt update, it hangs on ubuntu.security."something I forget" and apparently it is to do with trying to use ipv6 and failing. Anyway the workaround that ...

Re: Add launcher to panel from menu creates Thunar istead of cho
I get the same behaviour from Mint 17.2 - 18.3.
No idea the cause but the workaround for me has been to just add the launcher (let's say for VLC Media Player) and when it makes a Thunar launcher in error, delete it and repeat, and the second attempt has always worked.

Re: 18.3 Xfce Wireless connects but is dead/dies in seconds
Updated to kernel 4.13.0-21-generic, and so far so good. Got here and have run a few youtube videos all the way through at 720p in another tab as I am browsing/editing here. It's a short test, but it seems fixed! Hopefully the new kernel does not break something else. Edit: Well, the new kernel impr...

Re: 18.3 Xfce Wireless connects but is dead/dies in seconds
You might want to turn this off if you can (from newegg product listing) "GreenWLAN featured in theENUWI-1XN42 delivers optimum energy efficiency with smart power management." Here's my procedure to fix THAT RTL8188CUS: 1. iwconfig section shows: Power Management:off 2. I'll give the patc...

18.3 Xfce Wireless connects but is dead/dies in seconds
My wireless is refusing to work in Mint 18.x(3 currently) Xfce. I've been searching but only finding problems unlike mine. Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated. For the record, it works flawlessly on Windows, and old versions (forgot specifics now) of Linux. The router security is WPA2...
