Ensure under preferences->advanced you uncheck 'faster ripping(no error correction)' as for some reason it default to active.

Sounds like there may be some good news here that has landed since I commented. In the blog, under the heading 'Cinnamon' there is an update that looks like it might genuinely fix screen tearing.

For me, the games aren't listed alphabetically. Appears to be a combination of rating and number of votes. SupetTuxCart is second from top under games.

I think it's a case of hand editing the theme files, to be honest. How hard that is depends on how it was coded - it could be as easy as finding one colour definition and changing it.

Mint 18 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 so I would try that one.

You can, someone else will be able to advise; however let me offer an alternative - do a standard install to your flash drive, and use the second disc as your data disc, containing all your data directories (movies, music, documents etc.) then replace those directories on your ssd with links to the ...

You can do how you choose but I would stick Mint on the SSD. Don't use LVM if GPT is an option.
