Re: How to mount drive from crashed Win 10

From https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/107978/cant-access-windows-drive-windows-is-hibernated-refused-to-mount So, I stress that this will destroy any unsaved data that is in the hibernated Windows session. If that is not an issue for you, you should be able to access the drive by running: su...

Re: Can I safely remove GIMP and install the latest Flatpack version?

I don't know the answer to your question, but interestingly cinnamon-desktop-environment is not installed on my perfectly well running Mint 18.3 Cinnamon OS, and presumably never was. Same goes for 'Cinnamon-core.'

Re: Multiple, basic issues with Mint 18

Funny, my 81 year old mother's using it just fine. Hardly noticed the difference from MacOS for web, office and email use.

The bluetooth app here in the Cinnamon version has a great big 'on/off' selector and it works. What version are you using?

Re: How come the new LInux Kernels suggested by the update manager do not work

Only Mint 18 kernels 4.4 and 4.15 have long term support, so you should be using one of those now. 4.13 is only good until end of July before it stops receiving security updates.

Re: How to ask for a new driver?

People here can maybe help you find a driver or workaround if one is available. If you're talking about requesting a driver to be written, the Mint team aren't in that business and I know of no way to request a driver.

I would try UEFI without CMS. Disable secure boot if it's an option.

Re: any drawback on installing gnome shell

Assuming you get it working, if anything goes wrong after an update you're likely on your own as few if any others will be running Gnome shell and you're hardly running Mint at that stage anyway.

You'll get a more integrated desktop experience running stock Ubuntu.

Re: GNOME 3.28 Removes Option to Put Icons on the Desktop

Gnome's become an absolute joke. How something with so little (and rapidly decreasing) functionality can remain the most CPU and memory greedy of the mainstream desktops amazes me.

Re: Linux graphics driver for intel integrated gpu

Generally speaking, Intel integrated graphics should be fully accelerated out of the box using the pre-installed open source drivers. As your CPU is very new, it may require updating to a newer kernel or waiting for an update to the open source drivers. Mint 19 should be out very soon. Maybe that wi...

Correct, Gnome!=Mint. Even in Ubuntu which comes with a Gnome desktop, you'll find the same outdated version.

Re: Shotwell 22 (blech!)

Mint isn't in the business of managing the versions of third party applications in the repositories. Apart from the x-apps and Mint specific components (Update manager, software manager etc) you get whatever's in the Ubuntu LTS repository. The exceptions to the rule are the flatpak apps available in...

Re: Can I download and install Cinnamon's panel applet in terminal

You can do. The basic method is: 1) Use wget to download the applet to your applets folder. 2) Use dconf to add the applets to the 'enabled-applets' setting. #install favourite applets ================================================================================================================= c...

Your ISP NAT translates those IPV4 addresses to IPV6 and back.

Re: Amazon prime movies in sd only

They don't mention supported Linux systems for HD specifically. You could try installing an extension in your web browser to spoof your browser identification string and make it appear as if it's running on Windows or OSX.

Re: Amazon prime movies in sd only

Well that's some pretty important information that would have saved a lot of time if given up front.

You're not meeting some of the requirements then, I guess. Give us a list of them and tell us if you meet each one.
