Looks like bad keyboard. Test it on a different machine, or test a different working keyboard on your machine.

It's better to disable secure boot.

AFAIK there is no point in opening the isos in a terminal. There is nothing human readable.

It is advised to upgrade from version 18.3 to 19 and not from 17 to 19. Boot live USB version 19, do you get the same problem?

You can install Android Studio, which can be installed and run as just another Mint program.
You don't require a separate partition of it. You can do all Android development.

You must be aware that you can boot to 4.4 by choosing advanced options in grub and choosing 4.4. When upgrading the kernel in upgrade manager you get a tab indicating the new changes Incorporated.
