+1 well said.
Minus one detail: people do not have/wear seatbelts because of prudence but because of legislation. And conversely thankfully no such legislation existing for backups means many won't ever have them...
I believe most dont have any backups more than 50% I guess.

Re: Data recovery from formated linuxmint

In short NO, the long answers you already have. A good BACKUP strategy is always worthwhile. Saves all sorts of heartache. In over forty years of computing I've only ever needed to rely on backups twice, but if I did not have them, I would guarantee that I'd need them more than that. You have seatb...

iOS is supposed to be more secure and with polished and better gui,I thought.
Your knowledge about the MAC is overwhelming.
If that wasn't the case why pay premium for costly mac, commodity hardware will also run Mint.

How do you install the update? Through update manager or with apt upgrade?

Re: Cinnamon writes a lot of info to my ssd for nothing. Why?

It would seem that you both need to live a little; shut down / reboot the system more.: Yeah, nice, get a life has always been your best argument, thanks for your contribution. Also I don't care if my hardware is getting used, that's what it exists for. But it need not be used so much. Why not rebo...

Re: Grub prompt after Clonezilla recovery

Thank you. I forgot to mention that I had installed grub customizer some time ago in Mint. It was working ok till I restored the CZ image to sda7, which is Mint. I did cp -rp /etc/grub.d /etc/grub.old Deleted 25_custom Did sudo update-grub But the extra entries remain. The Mint system doesn't boot f...

Re: /bin/plymouth: not found

What caused this problem? Abrupt shutdown? Sudden power failure? Or after you did something?

Boot from live USB and run following in terminal

Code: Select all

 sudo fsck -y /dev/sda6
. Reboot after removing USB stick and test.

Re: Grub prompt after Clonezilla recovery

I executed boot repair which repaired Mint boot problem, but when I boot Mint, I have additional 15-20 lines in the grub menu apart from my installed systems. How do I remo...

Re: reformatting from NTFS to Ext4

Right, so that covers equal or larger Drives but how about smaller ones? There are tutorials on the web, but yes, clonezilla can restore to a smaller drive. You need to first shrink the source partition then use clonezilla's advanced options where there is a feature that can be invoked. However it'...
