Re: Can't install Mint 19.2

Sounds like sibling rivalry. On topic, how did you create the USB drive? If Etcher in Windows, USB drives burned that way can develop amnesia. Try again using Rufus . Or, better, if your other installation went through, use USB Image Writer in the installed system Multiboot is another way...

Re: Grub prompt after Clonezilla recovery

Thanks, now it is clear for me and the only thing, if your booting with CSM enable, maybe shimx64.efi is not a good idea to boot Ubuntu. Did you try booting with CSM disable?. If it works you can add a new entry to boot Mint/Ubuntu grubx64.efi with efibootmgr and keep on CSM enabled. Maybe as catwe...

Re: System becomes unresposive when idle

I put mine into Suspend yesterday, it's a clean install of 18.3 and it refused to wake back up completely, just a black screen. It didn't do it when my 18.3 had been an upgrade from 17.3, so maybe something in older system hung around during the upgrades to 18.3 to keep suspend working OK. I'll see...

If system and home are on a single partition, use Clonezilla is backup tool its much more faster than TS. In case home is a different partition, you have to backup 2 partitions using CZ

Good luck for your data recovery. Backups are most important, there absence is never felt when everything runs smooth, it is most prominent when there is disaster.

Re: Grub prompt after Clonezilla recovery

The whole point is that it does a block-for-block copy, then a block-for-block restore. It does, but it handles grub differently for some reason. You can see this when you do a restore. Certainly czilla is doing something odd with grub. Apart from restoring sda7 my Mint partition, CZ restored /efi/...

Re: Grub prompt after Clonezilla recovery

I'm certain lost with this threat and sure I'm not the only one. Please confirm it is a UEFI booting and when you say you can boot Mint entry from Manjaro you choose Manjaro EFI option. As you can get only GRUB prompt (choosing Ubuntu EFI option I suppose) and not the GRUB menu, it looks like grub ...

Re: (SOLVED) booting clonezilla from usb mystery

An easy solution. Multiboot usb for Windows can create a USB with multiple isos which can be booted.

Re: [SOLVED] Clonezilla no restore option

FWIW, I use two versions of Clonezilla (for various reasons). Older version is 2.3.1.18 and "newer" version (which allows drilling down into directories) is 2.5.6.22. My favorite is the older version for its simplicity. I can confirm that images created in either, are restorable with the other. I g...

Re: Dual boot on a Mint live USB.

Error is you need to load the kernel first This error, usually is because something is wrong in GRUB the menu entry for LM. Did you edit and change Multisystem GRUB files ? If you did not, maybe something went wrong with the LM Iso install and need to be removed and installed again. I tried with th...

Re: Dieing laptop problem

Try the smartmontools as given in later part of the article. If it gives any errors post them here. From sda1 to sda5.

Similarly try badblocks for sda1 to sda5. Did fdisk list sda1 to sda5?

Re: Dieing laptop problem

Still not doing anything, just blinking cursor. Does professional data recovery have a shot of working? A very good chance that the forum will be anle to solve it. There are Linux professioanls available here. Did you try the link? The bad block can be mapped and the good drive can be retreived. Bu...

Hope the backups with older media can be handled by the new CZ.
It's worth testing.
Not worth testing as I don't have a spare machine, have only one laptop which is for daily use. Can't take the chance and let it go down. Strange things are known to happen which defy logic or thought.

Do you know the partition on which you have Mint? Was /home on a different partition?
Have you set up logical volumes while installing?
See and try

Re: [SOLVED] Clonezilla no restore option

May be my old version ... The thought crossed my mind. It may be worth updating, but create several live media. The newer versions will make images that the old versions cannot read. Hope the backups with older media can be handled by the new CZ. I have all the backups with old CZ. I remember such ...

Re: [SOLVED] Clonezilla no restore option

After moving it in the root... That is absolutely unnecessary. Clonezilla allows you to traverse up and down the directory tree. My images are down six levels. It's a PEBCAK error. May be my old version may have that problem, but I confirm it exists. I will try a latest version. https://superuser.c...

Re: Grub prompt after Clonezilla recovery

I remembered from a posting (pbear?) that Manjaro is a distro that does not play well unless it has control of GRUB, so I would say you will have to boot Manjaro GRUB. Before the clonezilla recovery , I was booting Mint without any problem,. I was getting the grub entries to choose from. Found the ...
