Re: I've lost the wireless usb

Install UKUU, Ubuntu Kernel Upgrade Utility. With the help of UKUU, install highest numbered kernel 4.18.x version series, reboot and test. Good luck.

Re: [SOLVED] Display resolution after new install

Since running Linux Mint for awhile now, I had never encountered the Display feature showing Unknown VGA. Yesterday I found the cause. It turned out to be a loose VGA cable connection at the monitor itself. After connecting the cable firmly, the Display feature recognized my monitor and its native ...

Re: [SOLVED] Mint 19 Cinnamon unable to install gcc-8

You're welcome. Finally you can get to GCC'ing :) Its all because of you who did the hand holding very patiently excusing my mistake to disable the PPA. May be if the ppa wasnt enabled, the issue would not have risen. But again I enabled it in desperation when I wasnt able to install gcc-8, thinkin...

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon unable to install gcc-8

For a first, I'd suggest to disable the update-toolchain-r/test PPA for now. You can do that in Software Sources. Start by doing this, which I asked you to do earlier. That PPA is causing this issue. Then redo the following to, again, reinstall gcc packages and hopefully this time manage to get the...

Installed from the package gcc-8 in the Ubuntu 18.04 repository, /usr/bin/gcc-8 is a symoblic link to /usr/bin/x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc-8.

I can only guess it's still installed from somewhere else. What does this show:
apt policy gcc-8
/usr/bin/gcc-8 is a directory and not a file

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon unable to install gcc-8

I missed you can also remove these Python 3.5 and Ruby 2.3 library packages: apt purge libpython3.5 libpython3.5-dev libpython3.5-minimal libpython3.5-stdlib libruby2.3 For the rest, we have to split up gcc-7 related packages from gcc-8 related packages as these have a different base version. I hop...

Re: How much maxi,um memory can my laptop have?

I think my laptop will be able to support a total 256 gb DRAM. I rather think not. Even though your CPU may physically have 40 address pins (*) not 38 of them will be wired up to DIMM slots. While I as mentioned wouldn't trust that 8GiB of dmidecode, more than 16GiB I also wouldn't... (*) Note that...

One possible solution can be use same Kernel that you used in 18.3 in 19 too.
uname -r
gives the running kernel version
