Just lost all my Panel settings: possible to restore?

Hi, I had a dozen panel apps (little launcher icons on the left next to the start-menu button) configured. Mostly hand-written commands which took me a lot of time to set up. Also all the applets I added disappeared. What happened? I just switched to "modern layout" in Welcome Screen > First Steps >...

Re: Cannot install libsdl2-dev

Thanks! This worked ;)

How to avoid similar problems in the future? Would have Linux Mint fixed this automatically in the course of a few days?

Re: Cannot install libsdl2-dev

libpulse-dev from the official repositories indeed depends on libpulse0 1:11.1-1ubuntu 7.4 and that is also the version of libpulse0 in the official repositories. That your system says it's going to install 1:11.1-1ubuntu 7.5 sounds like you added some repository to your system that has a newer ver...

Re: Bluetooth auto-connect of simple audio sinks doesn't work - does in elementart OS though

No. It's the same machine. I just booted in other OS. elementaryOS I booted from a LiveUSB. I think they use Kernel 5.5.x. So maybe that's the difference. I just need to wait for newer kernels. It was like that for a long time with USB. Linux was not properly supporting all USB sticks for a long tim...

Re: Bluetooth auto-connect of simple audio sinks doesn't work - does in elementart OS though

I already had Blueman installed. No difference.

Thanks for all your help...I will wait for newer Kernel versions...maybe they will fix it. I will have to check out what Kernel elementaryOS is using, where Bluetooth auto-connect works like a charm.

Re: Bluetooth auto-connect of simple audio sinks doesn't work - does in elementart OS though

Thanks guys for the help...I am greatful for all input.

I have Mint 19.3 but the latest kernel is 5.3.0-28 which I have installed and is active. I don't know why you have a newer kernel on 19.2 ?!

Re: Linux Mint distribution that supports both Cinnamon and Xfce..?

Thanks for the input. I convinced my family today to all move to elementaryOS. Nobody has to keep their desktop but elementaryOS is quite simple and also Bluetooth auto-connect works (viewtopic.php?f=90&t=311899) which was the main reason to move.

Re: Linux Mint distribution that supports both Cinnamon and Xfce..?

Yes. Using the various meta-packages. Which meta packages? It's not fully 100% but installing mint-meta-cinnamon on top of XFCE or mint-meta-xfce on top of Cinnamon is a pretty good result. The only thing obviously missing from XFCE doing the latter is xfce4-terminal. People have come to expect a g...

Re: Linux Mint distribution that supports both Cinnamon and Xfce..?

Sure...so if everybody wants to use the computer every days multiple times I am re-booting 20 times. Great idea ;) I recently installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 from scratch and added Xfce afterwards. Instantly several family members asked me why this looks like trash and many things were not workin...

Re: Linux Mint distribution that supports both Cinnamon and Xfce..?

Yes. Using the various meta-packages. This is the problem. Installing missing desktops is very unsatisfactory. It is not even close to the desktop quality you get if you use the same pre-installed desktop environment that comes with Linux Mint Cinnamon or Linux Mint Xfce. Everybody on the family com...

Linux Mint distribution that supports both Cinnamon and Xfce..?

Hi, I love Linux Mint with its perfect Cinnamon integration. My wife prefers Xfce. https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php Linux Mint comes with desktop environments pre-installed. There is a version for Cinnamon and one for Xfce. Both have a fantastic "integration". Everything works out of the box f...

Bluetooth auto-connect of simple audio sinks doesn't work - does in elementart OS though

Hi, I have a bunch of bluetooth headphones (just listen to audio, no microphone) that perfectly pair and work with Linux Mint 19.3 but don't automatically reconnect when turned on (e.g. by taking them out of the charging case). I always have to open the Bluetooth devices and hit the "connect" button...

Bluetooth headphones still don't autoconnect :(

Hi, I have the same problem since Mint 18 up until Mint 19.3. I have two different Bluetooth headsets and they both work. However they do not autoconnect. They are connected for a split-second (according to the Bluetooth device manager) but then immediately disconnect. I have to push the connect but...

Re: linux mint your boot menu emergency mode does not require a password ?

Thanks! So the locked screen is sufficient to keep my encrypted data safe? Aren't there some forensic hardware tools that can be plugged into a running computer and then all the encrypted data read since it is mounted even if the screen is locked? Depends on what you are defending against. Any othe...

Re: linux mint your boot menu emergency mode does not require a password ?

You can't login as root if the password isn't set. Only the recovery console is usable. Without additionally unlocking your home partition/directory by knowing the password/passphrase, your encrypted files aren't accessible from the recovery console. If a password is set on the root account, your f...

linux mint 19.3 your boot menu emergency mode does not require a password ?

Hi, I just updated to Mint 19.3 with Cinnamon 4.4 The System Reports now shows me: "Your boot menu emergency mode does not require a password. Set the root password to protect it." See the attached screenshot for all details. Is not setting the root password somehow a security risk? Setting the root...

Re: Cinnamon - snappier but CPU hog

No clue?

I would like to monitor CPU consumption over a longer period. Is it possible to capture CPU consumption data of ALL processes (including non-user processes)? I would then print a graph from this data over time and maybe an accumulative bar chart.
