Re: Choose different Audio Output Device without removing headphone jack..?

Your alsamixer output is extremely limited. Not only is Auto-Mute Mode not there (which is sometimes the case for certain hardware) there isn't even any settings for headphones or speakers connected to the computer. I find that quite odd. I am currently reworking the little PC to be passively coole...

Re: Choose different Audio Output Device without removing headphone jack..?

Am I missing the "Auto Mute Mode" column? See attached screenshot. Now that I think more about it, I wonder if this is a hardware problem. The external monitor is connected via HDMI. The external monitor has speakers which go silent when I plug in my headphone into the monitor back. The PC connected...

Choose different Audio Output Device without removing headphone jack..?

Hi, I have a normal PC, a Thinkpad and an external Monitor which all have external speakers. Playing audio works flawlessly. Sometimes I plug in a headphone via audio jack. This silences the external speakers for the device. Only the headphones play sound. Now I would like - via software - to be abl...

Re: Artifacts when connecting two monitors..?

I just tested the latest Manjaro distribution with XFCE and Xbuntu 19.04. Even if "Enable Display Composition" is active there are no screen artefacts when I attach 2 monitors. Linux Mint 19.1 is not very old. I assume X-Server, drivers and anything else is not much older? Maybe it is just a configu...

Artifacts when connecting two monitors..?

Hi, I tried Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon with two monitors connected to my Nuc8i5BEH. On one of the monitors I get some black-whit-checkerboard artifacts in videos. Strangely I get the same artifacts in Linux Mint 19.1 XFCE. However if I turn off "Enable Window Composition" in Windows Tweaks > Composito...

After updating to 19.1 all keyboard entry is sluggish

Hi, I think everybody is familiar with the effect (mostly in webbrowsers) where you type something in a textfield and it takes a millisecond until the characters appear. O r you type quickly "This is a Test" and the characters don't appear one after the other but rather nothing appears although you ...

Re: Cannot start program from panel shortcut

I managed to debug and solve my problem. Starting a program using a panel-button will execute with a very minimal ($PATH etc.) environment definition. Much different from the environment you have when opening for example a bash shell and executing your program. I worked around this by starting my pr...

Re: Cannot start program from panel shortcut

Thanks. I am not sure. It would really help if we knew how to debug this. I can't even get an error message when I press the panel button and nothing happens. The first step to fixing the problem is understanding the problem.

Cannot start program from panel shortcut

Hi, I ran into this problem in the past with other desktops like XFCE. You have a program or script that runs on your default shell (bash in Cinnamon) but then it does not run if you execute it via a panel shortcut. I am assuming this does not work since the panel shortcut does not read and apply th...

Re: Wifi not working after installing new Wifi Card

Thanks, but I already did download the driver from Intel's website and followed the README. Didn't work.

Also installing the exact same kernel the Live USB uses (which works), didn't work for my installation.

Wifi not working after installing new Wifi Card

Hi, my Wifi on LM18 is not working anymore after installing a new wifi card. The annoying thing is, the LM18 Live-USB with which I installed LM18 on my computer can use the new Wifi-Card without problems! When I look at dmesg, the driver is used and all works fine. from Live-USB dmesg [ 18.104842] i...

Re: How to monitor CPU activity in detail..?

Thanks...but concy only gives a very coarse grained overview of cpu and the system as a whole. I need as detailed as possible. My CPU should be turb-boost capable and I can see it using turbo-boost in Windows monitoring tools. Is there a tool that can monitor turbo-boost (or the change in CPU freque...

How to monitor CPU activity in detail..?

Hi, how can I monitor my laptop cpu in detail? I am used to getting highly detailed info about the current cpu-frequency for each core, vcore, halt states, turbo boost, etc. P.S.: I have a dual core with 2,4 GHZ with Hyperthreading, so it has 4 virtual cores. In cat /proc/cpuinfo it shows each core ...

Re: LM19.0 & ultra-wide monitors (2560x1080) [solved - after a fashion]

All my tests are using a live usb stick with the named distribution iso put on them. I don't know the exact kernel LM18 was released with. It is probably the same kernel as 16.04 on which it is based on, so probably the 4.4.x kernel. Next time I do a test (probably LM 18.1) I will check the exact ke...

Just checked: Linux Mint 18 works for my T510. Monitor detected flawlessly.

Did you already file a bug report (Link?)

Re: Only 1920x1080 available on 2560x1080 monitor available

Yes, I currently use a 4.4 kernel indeed. It works. So probably it is the kernel in combination with Intel Graphics Chips? How to file a bug for this? With the kernel dev or Ubuntu? I tested many other non-Ubuntu distris now since I was curious. Fedora and Arch and Debian based distris all show the ...

Re: Only 1920x1080 available on 2560x1080 monitor available

Yes, but AndyMH has no problems till 18.3. Only 19 doesn't handle his monitor well.

In my case 18.3 does not work. I think the last working version was 18.1.

Same problem - unrelated cause?

18.3 does not work for me. I will test 18.0 soon.

It is X11 HWE. I can use current kernels.

Re: Only 1920x1080 available on 2560x1080 monitor available

Thanks. I know this works. I don't need get-edid...cvt and gtf work for me. My problem is, the display changes from HDMI1 to HDMI-1 randomly after reboot. Also my main priority is to somehow get this into Ubuntu so this problem is fixed once and for all. How can I achieve this? Is this even a bug? I...

Re: Only 1920x1080 available on 2560x1080 monitor available

I am using Displayport. As I said, 16.04.1 and every version before that offered 2560x1080 resolution. 16.04.2 offered only 1920x1080.
