Re: Wlan Card

I have a dual boot system - 32 and 64 bit isadora; I just tried using ndiswrapper on 32 bit and it works perfectly... so it's partially solved. Is it possible to make it work in 64 bit, I wonder, or should I just uninstall 64-bit linux and stick with the 32-bit editions?

Re: Wlan Card

Thanks for the link; ndiswrapper says that the driver is installed and can detect the card; however, it does not show up after using ifconfig and iwconfig, only eth0 and lo. Any ideas why? Also, the command sudo modprobe ndiswrapper doesn't complete in the terminal.

Wlan Card [PARTIALLY SOLVED]

Hello, Generally, I'm used to LM automatically running wireless networking cards without need to install drivers. However, I have a machine with a wireless card (netgear WG311) which doesn't run; it doesn't show any wireless networks at all. Does anyone have a link to a wireless driver I could use? ...

Re: no internet connection should I reinstall

hmm...
if time isnt a problem, then a fresh reinstall is probably the simplest solution; make sure you BACKUP your data!
then again, if the problem persists after the fresh install, perhaps there's a hardware fault with the port?

post to us how it goes!

Re: Buggy windows

You can turn off compiz on your desktop by going menu->appearance, then selecting the "desktop effects" tab, then selecting "no desktop effects". Done!

I've had a similar problem.
Try turning off compiz (desktop effects) and see what happens.
If the problem goes away, keep it - if you don't mind a no frills desktop...

Re: HELP!! Brand new linux user

welcome to Linux!

Do you know how many partitions you have?

If not, type;

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gparted
then, after installing it,

Code: Select all

sudo gparted
Is there more than one partition? Need a bit more info to solve this...

Re: How do I extend Linux's partition?

I'm assuming you installed Linux Mint the normal way - using a boot disk.

Since you cannot edit partitions whilst reading/writing data from them, i.e booting into either windows or linux partitions, use the boot disk and run gparted from that.

Re: Buggy windows

I've also tried with Chrome; Exactly the same thing happened, so it probably isn't anything to do with the RAM... I've just tried going back to basics before going all out; I've turned off compiz. No more Problem!!! :D Everything works better, and the boot disk is much more stable. Is there a new ve...

Re: Buggy windows

I've just experimented around with this bug; it also only seems to specifically affect firefox browser windows, but nothing else. Also, the "fuzziness" appears when the exhibition function is used (super + E). Attached are some screenshots; it's pretty hard to describe... :? These have all...

Buggy windows

When I open any window, and if it is not maximised, occasionally, when moved, random lines (similar to an untuned tv, but in colour) appear, and will not disappear. I'm not sure if this PC specific; i tested this on an inspiron 6000. This also happens more dramatically when the unmaximised window is...

[closed] NetworkManager Applet bug

Just a small thing, nothing major; While the desktop is loading, if the applet detects a wireless connection, it shows a message ate top right of the desktop, which states, "to connect to a wireless network, click this bubble". However, as with the volume and brightness control bubbles, it...

Re: Finally ditching windows.

Good for you! The partition editor (gparted) should let you resize, delete, and create new partitions if they're not mounted. By deleting the Windows partition, it leaves a lot of space that the linux partition can be grown into. As far as I know, KDE is more impressive and flexible graphically, but...

Re: Post-install, running, how do you view the partitions?

If you want to also resize the partitions, so the proportion of free space is more even, partition editor is the application you need to use. You need to type: sudo gparted It's pretty simple to use, and to see the partition usage, right click on the partition you want to see, and select "prope...

Sorted!! It turns out on the sound control box "switches" tab, there were 2 necessary checkboxes that affected the sound output: The "Headphone LFE" and "Headphone Center". Still not sure what each is meant to do, but i noticed that each one cut the cound to eith L or R...
