Re: MyPhoneExplorer

Hello, Just in case someone is interested : On the editor’s website you can read a « linux thread » : https://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7617&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=195 One guy « fugazza » describes there the following 2015 process : Here is the most recent guide, how to install MyP...

Re: Sticky windows shadows with xfwm4+compositing

Hello, Thanks for your help and sorry for being late. All the "shadows" boxes are unticked in my parameters setting page, and "compositer" let shadows haunt each of my windows I have tried with compton instead of compositor (xfwm4+compton as desktop setting). Thanks to fblais and after installing "c...

Sticky windows shadows with xfwm4+compositing

Hello LM community, I use a (very good) LM19 install on my macbook 5.1. I have xfwm4+compositing enabled as desktop parameters. I want to use transparency (for windows decorations, and dock, and unactive windows), but no shadows. I saw that even with unticked "normal window shadows" box, there are s...

Re: SOLVED - LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

OK ! I believe you about the "none" type. But I still find it strange that "auto" used to work for several years before. Perhaps an update or a broken file somewhere made the "auto" type unstable.

Thanks for your help !

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Hello, Thanks Fabien85 and gm10 for your help. I have to say that my initial problem is solved, and then I had a second problem that could have been adressed in another thread. I think now I am done with both problem, thanks to your advice and help and some experiments. I agree a "short thread" and ...

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Hello Fabien85, I changed my name in joe in my post to keep it quite "secret", but actually it does appear in the boot-info :) so it is the same, on my computer there is only one user. My uid is 501. I changed it to be able to share files with MacOS (whose first uid is 501). As the documents partiti...

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Because of this efi/boot location clue, I made a boot-info file : http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/ttr3Sj2fww/ The disk type is "gpt". On /dev/sda1 there are the following files : Boot files: /EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg /EFI/BOOT/fbx64.efi /EFI/tools/gptsync_ia32.efi /EFI/ubuntu/fwupx64.efi /EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.ef...

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

I saw that for the last timeshift snapshots ( after the crash and my login loop), there are data to write on /dev/sda3 (root partition) only. /boot is on dev/sda3 and location for /efi/boot is not detailed. For the older snapshots, there are data to write on /dev/sda1 (EFI partition) for /efi/boot. ...

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Hello Fabien85, Actually when I mount this partition with the "disks" application, It can be written, but only with a root access. I am the user who owns all the documents folder, yet in the file manager (thunar) I cannot see the folder content without a root access. With a root access I have no pro...

Re: SOLVED LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Hello, Actually after a few happy days I got aware that I had my fstab with some commented lines. I could not access my documents, which are on my shared hfsplus partition. So I tried to uncomment these lines. And then at the rebooting, I had the same « login loop » than before ! Argh. Thanks to wha...

Re: SOLVED LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

OK, thank your for your explanations... It seems not as easy as I thought and I understand why you suggest to use another tool for another snapshot.

Re: SOLVED LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

OK, so... I could have solved my problem in this much easier way... OK for documents, even if I don't understand well why it should be safer with another tool, it this one does the same kind of backup. Is it to have different snapshots for documents and for system ? Can't you do two diffents snapsho...

Re: SOLVED LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Wow, thanks, I was not aware of Timeshift abilities. If one's wants to restore a timeshift snapshot from a live USB, one's has to boot on its live USB, and then find the snapshot file in its file system ? or from an external backup drive ? For documents, I can figure out another snapshot from time t...

Re: Volume notification is smaller than the bright notification

Hello Metallextrem, In your panel settings, you can add Pulse Audio (which gives bigger notifications). You will have two volume notifications, one small and one big. Then, you can remove the "indicator sound" in the xfce settings, session menu. It should remove the "small volume notifications". EDI...

Re: SOLVED LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

I use timeshift, but only as a system backup system, on the same hard disk than the root partition. So in my case (and when system doesn't boot) it is useless.

But timeshift does not give bootable backups, does it ?

And is it well suited for documents backup too ?

OK for the error messages.

SOLVED Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

IT WORKED ! even if I am not sure about what worked. I had two documents backups I made yesterday on two external hard drives (from MacOS with carbon copy cloner, that I found very useful to have incremental backups AND bootable backup... for MacOS. I did not find such an easy tool with mint). That ...

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

1. Before I reinstall LM 19 xfce, I am going to try the lvm2 removing, mainly because it's an opportunity to train my beginner's skills... with the chroot process, as far as I am concerned, I can proceed without any internet connection ? With my xfce live usb, I cannot get wifi connection (Broadcom ...

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Gm10 and Fabien85, thanks for your help. I added an user from the recovery mode. The "timed out" and "dependency failed" messages appeared while the command was executing, I guess it was not perfect conditions. When I tried to reboot, I couldn't first reach either the login screen, nor the the recov...

Re: LM19 xfce "login loop" / read only ext4 partition after crash

Hello, 1. The commented swap and efi lines in the fstab file do prevent warning messages from appearing under recovery mode root shell... but that do not change anything concerning login. I still face the same login loop, and am unable to start a session. So it tends to show that the problem with sw...
