Re: How to ensure physical drives are always assigned the same logical device?
Thank you. I will try those options. The USB backup drives are Veracrypt encrypted used for different kinds of data. I have to mount them when I boot. The mount points then are /media/veracrypt1/, /media/veracrypt2/, etc. which become part of the backup path. It's kind of a pain, but you know, secur...

How to ensure physical drives are always assigned the same logical device?
Is there a way to ensure my external USB drives are always assigned to the same logical device? For instance, I want USB drive A to always be /dev/sdc, USB drive B to always be /dev/sdd, and so on. When I boot the system, it seems to be random which drive is assigned which device ID. It's not always...

Re: Not able to install VirtualBox on Mint 21.3
I use the Virtual Box repository to get the Oracle version. As soon as a new version is posted on the VBox website, it appears in Update Manager. Add it as a repository in Software Sources. I've used this for years.
Code: Select all
deb [arch=amd64] http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian jammy contrib

Re: What is the sudo password for USB boot?
Alright......so thankfully I was able to get into Timeshift from the live USB and restore all the stuff I stupidly deleted. So I'm back to normal. Whew.

What is the sudo password for USB boot? [Solved]
I have a self-imposed disaster on my primary drive and can't boot it. I booted the system from USB and can see the drive. I have a secondary drive that it mounted at /media/mint/DRIVE_D. i need to copy some data from the primary drive to DRIVE_D, but can't because I do not have "permission"...

Re: Cannot delete directory, "Bad Message".
Ok, this was painful. But after several hours on Google and a bunch of different webpages, I found the answer in a Reddit post. So I am putting it here in case anyone else has the same problem. 1. Unmount everything from Veracrypt and close it. 2. Mount encrypted volume at a command prompt. I don't ...

Cannot delete directory, "Bad Message". [Solved]
I have this directory on the backup drive that is hosing up my backups. It is on an external USB, veracrypt encrypted drive. It is formatted ext4. But because it is encrypted, it must be mounted with Veracrypt to see the partitions. There is a directory that is apparently corrupt, and no matter what...

Re: Thunderbird 115 Update - Solved
Thanks to each for the comments on my earlier post. Yes, Evolution isn't great, and the others are way too basic. So, I've been fiddling with the settings in Thunderbird. The one thing I can't find is how to make it show me unread emails in the subfolders? (Moved there by the message filters). It s...

Re: Thunderbird 115 Update - Solved
Using css I was able to rearrange the toolbars. I did the same with Firefox when they moved stuff around. Fine. It was relatively easy to find. It seems to me, a lot of the css I find on both Thunderbird and Firefox are keywords very specific to those products. There must be many more that could be ...

Re: Mint 21.2 update manager
Well. So. Weird. When I went to bed last night, update manager was all locked up. This morning, I get up, and all is well. So either someone on the other end somewhere, fixed it overnight, or I have a computer ghost in the house.

Re: Mint 21.2 update manager
I was having the same issue on both my desktop and laptop computers. Running "full-upgrade" on the laptop appears, for now, to have fixed it. However when I run "update", then "full-upgrade" on my desktop, I get this: ron@RCS1 ~ $ sudo apt full-upgrade [sudo] password f...

Re: Update manager is broken
There is another thread about this, too. Others are having the same problem. I'm having it on both my desktop and laptop computers. I've timeshifted back a week, but Update Manager still doesn't work. There has to be some kind of bug in the software, or something in one of its downloads. I guess, we...

Memtest Grub option lines?
When I installed memtest86+ using Synaptic, it installed it, and added these four lines to the Grub menu. I cannot find anything that tells me what these options mean, what is the difference is between each of these options, nor anything that tells me why I would want to choose one option over anoth...

Indeed, there are memory errors appearing, and the dumps do point to libxul-so. I guess I shouldn't be ...

Re: Firefox tab crashes AGAIN.
Absolutely NOTHING has worked. I have tried every single thing I can find from searches and suggestions. I STILL get multiple TAB crashes and now even full browser crashes every day, all day. I've upgraded to the newest Mint, no change. I must have reported 60 crashes in the last two weeks. I've cle...

Re: Firefox tab crashes AGAIN.
Well bummer. Two tab crashes again today. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox through Synaptic so it should be the right one. I don't know what to do. I send reports every time it happens. I'm up to about 17 this week. It is really annoying. The crashes happen if I start FF in troubleshoot mode wi...

Re: Firefox tab crashes AGAIN.
there was one other report recently, but IIRC, they fixed their problem by totally removing Firefox, and then reinstalling it .... and I think they went direct to Mozilla. your config files are not erased, unless you manually do that yourself, or select that procedure in Synaptic I used to do that,...
