I raised it as a bug in launchpad. Incredible that after all this time it's considered a new bug. I got the soulution to it over a year ago. btw control-panel-qt is available in Synaptic package manager but not in the software Manager

go to Peferences -> Passwords + Keys ->View. right click on Login and Change Password -> Give old p/w and change to Blank. The old password is set to your user password by default.

I already had 1 click to open files using behaviour/preferences and this opened files ok with one click but not icons on the desktop. I tried the above suggestion but I still can't get desktop icons to open without clicking twice.

Hi Dr.U I'm not sure about the chroot method from live cd but I found out that if you set your password with space and characters as mine was. It accepts this during installation but for some reason it only accepts alpha numeric passwords at login So I did a re-install. Hopes this helps.

Ihave been usin Ubuntu 8.10 with a dual boot Mint 6 gnome until last week. Now running Mint 6 kde RC1 and looking forward to the stable release. 2 things.
