Re: Lost 130 Mbps of band width and don't know why.

Sorry I've been so slow responding. Life closes in sometimes. What a journey I've had thru the different speed test sites. The big take away that I got from it is that they all display different results. If you want to see how fast your connection can be go to site A. If you want to see how slow you...

Re: Lost 130 Mbps of band width and don't know why.

Hey guys, Sorry about the delayed reply. I have made what I think may be some progress. I have been using the "legacy.speedtest dot net" by Ookla website for my speedtests in the past. It has always been very consistent and I like the format. When this current problem cropped up I started shopping a...

Re: Lost 130 Mbps of band width and don't know why.

All41 What a great idea. I never thought of that. So you see, this is why I'm not a tech billionaire. I did it and got 430Mbps. So that means the problem lies in my implementation of Mint. I'm still kicking it around to see if I can blindly stumble on the solution. Any help from the masses would be ...

Lost 130 Mbps of band width and don't know why. (solved)

About two weeks ago the computer in my bedroom seems to have lost about 130 Mbps of band width. I pay for 400Mbps of bandwidth and all the computers in the house get it as verified by speed checks. One day while checking the bedroom computer I noticed it was only getting 270 Mbps. Its been very cons...

Re: Update will not connect to server

catweazel O.K. Now we seem to be getting it. The command still didn't work but I went in and unchecked the boxes of the offending repository as you suggested. I then clicked the refresh option from the Update icon in the system tray and it updated with no problem. I then entered the apt get update c...

This is odd. I see the typo that you fixed and it sure looks like it should fix things but I get the exact same response.

Update will not connect to server (Solved)

Hello, As of today the update function no longer functions. I am seeing a red x in the shield icon for update. When I hit refresh it acts as if it is updating but then pops a warning that it cannot connect and advises me to check my internet connection and maybe switch mirrors. The internet is other...

Re: Can only connect to internet via VPN

VPN kill switch. The thing that disconnects you from the internet if the VPN involuntarily disconnects. I don't even remember turning it on but I must have. I turned it off and then back on and bingo! Back to normal, so, NEVERMIND. Thanks to you guys for sharing your thoughts on the subject and I'm ...

Re: Can only connect to internet via VPN

Much progress being made while I stumble around in the dark. I have been turning the VPN on/off with the VPN app but have been leaving the app open in the tray.If I close out the VPN app so it is no longer in the tray things return to the way they should be (sort of). I can connect to my router, Sam...

Re: Can only connect to internet via VPN

Good idea! Just tried it but no joy. :( I'm starting to think its a bad address for something. MAC / IP for the computer. I'm just grasping now. Thinking of deleting all the entries for the different ethernet connections in network manager and rebooting to see if it assigns different (and good) addr...

Re: Can only connect to internet via VPN

Hey faust I'm not sure what happened to cause this. I tried to use samba the other day and it was out so I thought I would look at the router and thats when I realized I could not connect to the router. I then thought that maybe the VPN was acting up so I turned it off and lost all connectivity to t...

Re: Can only connect to internet via VPN

"only enable the card you want to use" Thats sort of what I thought also. This is the first time I've become aware of "auto ethernet". I'm pretty sure that the computer in question matched the one with separate on/off functions. Must have gotten changed by an update????? The computer in question get...

Re: Can only connect to internet via VPN

Hey greerd, Thanks for the reply. I have firewall turned off and tried your suggestion with no luck....same as before. Can only connect to internet via VPN SOLVED

I can only connect to the internet thru my VPN. With the VPN disconnected I cannot connect with ethernet or wireless. If I turn on the VPN it will connect with both. I also cannot connect to my router. I type in the routers address (192.168.1.1) and it will not connect, with or without the VPN. I ha...

Re: Missing "add to panel, uninstall ETC" options in menu? (Solved)

Cosmo, I corrected the ownership in my account using the directions that you provided and I'm pleased to announce that seems to have cleared up all the problems I was having. I can now make my menu lists as long as I want with as many items as I want and the sub/action menus work just as they should...

Re: Missing "add to panel, uninstall ETC" options in menu

Hey All, Thanks for the replies! I think I stumbled on to my own answer after reading Oso's reply. In it he mentioned the size of the various menu lists and that some get to long. Armed with that thought I started playing with the menu editor and Voila! I found that, in my case, if a menu list is lo...

Re: Missing "add to panel, uninstall ETC" options in menu

I had a similar problem recently. The solution was to right click the menu icon and pick configure, then select menu at the top of that screen. Then deselect all four of the items under Layout and content. Then re-select them. That worked for me. The advise I was following suggested that there were...
