Re: Cannot Connect to Ethernet

No physical link layer, either check BIOS or try a different port or cord.

Thanks.

Re: No network controller?

Cheers, A quick googling shows this is a kernel regression some have been able to downgrade to a backport of the 4.10 Kernel. Download link for driver I found: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005511/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html I think yours is the 6th one dow...

Re: LAN connection not established under certain circumstances

Seems like whenever there is a post of a pervasive and deep (i.e. Impossible to nail down) networking issues, that person is using a realtek chipset.

Re: nemo does not copy SOME directories/files between Linux Mint v18.10 systems

I advise don't use nemo try rsync and see what happens at the root. Could be running into any number of filesystem craziness up to and including samba shares. You could always try copying over ftp/sftp if that works?

Re: New Linux Mint Installation - unable to obtain IP address

Correct me if I'm wrong gents, I believe we have here a case of "Realtek driver strikes again....". The default module in use with that particular ethernet chipset seems to give untold user nothing but problems. I've had to use the drivers from the realtek site for that one, now all is good with the...

I second the "disks" utility. It is always trustworthy when examining a removable volume. Saved me more than once.

Re: Can my computer communicate via ethernet and wifi at the same time?

In further research of an academic nature. This would have to be configured via the routing table like wired gateway default route being 10.0.10.1 or the like and then your wifi might be 192.168.0.1 ? After going through some articles I came up with the following. http://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...

Re: Can my computer communicate via ethernet and wifi at the same time?

You could always setup two interfaces in Linux, however, desktop linux distribution (Like Mint) most applications may have issues if they don't know where to route. Basically, IMHO you need to do something like this you are making your PC take the place of an appliance (Like a firewall/router to seg...

Re: Buying a new NAS, but which one?

I have an ASUSTOR AS1002T 2-bay NAS that was quite inexpensive. I went ahead and paired it with WD Red 3TB running in RAID 0. This is only an ARM processor, but this setup plays very well with linux permissions and the device even runs linux on the backend for a kind of SSH access if you are wanting...

Re: trying to add dual-port intel NIC. Mint identifies the card, but still no connectivity??

Did you try assigning br0 and bridging the interfaces along with the utilities as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkConnectionBridge You have to bridge the network connection in pairs especially on the same card. I would try bridging the intel interfaces first and then experiment with the...

Re: ASROCK H110M-STX Linux compatible?

Long answer, This just a re-engineering of hardware based upon the intel platform architecture using different form factor, so it should in effect work perfectly. The drivers written for the M.2 slots and the power/sata slots will probably be kernel generic. Linux will basically run on a toaster pro...

Re: LM XFCE - Keyboard issue

I had a 1000HE that eventually died per the motherboard (no longer booted), I think it was due to a liquid spill or rough handling. For your issue I never did get the keyboard working on certain linux distros 100%. I.e the middle keyboard marked with #s would do weird things or not work at all. I wo...

Re: SSH simply will not work !!! Losing my mind ...

I don't know if you guys are getting side tracked, I assume from altair4's explanation he is trying to ssh from the GUI. Open up a console and ~$ ssh X.X.X.X From client to the server assuming local ip scheme (192.168.X.X). I do this all the time with my boxes. And he is correct you have to blow out...

I clearly see from what I am assuming you have the G3 model, http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=7834555#!tab=specs There being and ethernet port on the side. Can you try and connect via ethernet port cabled into your modem/ router. Might be helpful. Based on the earlie...

Re: Slow home LAN file transfer in one direction

I have the same network card on a NIC and I have noticed a performance difference especially prevalent at 100 Mbps. Ive suspected that the drivers used by default in the linux kernel are to blame for slower overall speeds. Ive verified my internal network is using 1 GIG speeds, cabling etc but my in...

Re: Sharing an Eth connection

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe what you are referring to would be a network appliance such as a switch or a router that you would then cable into your LAN. I see a fitPC has both wirless and wired. I would assume that you would use the wireless for internet then the wired for your LAN. Traf...

Greetings from Florida, I have been using linux mint since around LM 15 or so. I like the overall theme interface and timely updates of the OS. The Kernel is fast and stable and allows me to tweak as much as I desire. It also has a dedicated user base and design team. A lot of issues with just Ubunt...
