Re: Extraordinarily slow

Someone else has the Acer 5253. I have a 4730Z and it's working normally. I have described how Linux operates, not how it deals with the Internet. When installing, it is operating from a DVD, taking any downloads into account. When it runs slowly after installation, I described how it is operating i...

Re: Extraordinarily slow

But that is precisely my point. If this happens every single time, then I would junk the old hardware. For the vast majority of the time, everything works normally and is satisfactory, under the circumstances. Only occasionally does an install work this way. It wouldn't be so bad if it was only slow...

Re: Extraordinarily slow

I'm amazed by 1.25 hours. My fresh install of 19 cinnamon on a Sandybrdge i5 machine with HDD was done and dusted in about 15 minutes... If mine had an i5 and gobs of memory and a modern hard drive or SSD, it might complete in 15 minutes, too, but it doesn't. The laptop has the maximum amount of me...

Re: Extraordinarily slow

Back on topic... Why are some installations incredibly slow? I gave you a recent example of a really bad one and I still have no idea why this happens or what, if anything, I, as a user, can do about it. This isn't my first time in this rodeo. I have experienced this with various distributions, off ...

Re: Extraordinarily slow

Once installation starts, I am not going to interfere with it. I am almost finished installing Xfce overtop of the first install. Same hardware and Internet connection, different install disc. It is taking a normal amount of time. (It just completed and took about 1.25 hours.) I still have no idea w...

Extraordinarily slow

Over the years, I occasionally come across Linux installs that take an extraordinary amount of time to operate, in general. While I am encountering this now with LM 19/Cinnamon, this has occurred with various distributions, not just LM. Yesterday evening, somewhere around 9PM, I started this install...

Re: boot-repair

I have used Boot-Repair many, many times, but right now, I can't get it to install or work properly. I have tried LM 18 KDE and Xfce 32-bit discs, but both of them fail to either install it properly or to run it properly. Boot-Repair never gets populated into the list of installed programs. If it do...

Linux testing software?

At times, I struggle with some of my Linux installs. There are some very long pauses when absolutely nothing seems to be happening for quite a while, or the pauses may gradually extend into longer times as I use Linux. Most of the time, this happens when using a browser, but it isn't just one browse...

Re: Brasero hasn't worked, for years

@ddalley: tried Xfburn yet, as I advised earlier? Finest non-KDE burning application there is. Reliable, stable, simple. Brasero on the other hand.... not so much. Of course. I have used Xfburn and K3B as alternatives for years. However, I also try to give Brasero its due every year or so. I just h...

This might not work with Brasero
If this doesn't resolve Brasero's problems, then why bother? If you had proved that it actually did something good, then you would be onto something.

Re: console-setup won't update

Thank you Monsta! The situation came about because I clicked on the shield in the menu at the bottom, so as far as I am concerned, this should never have happened, but I will write this into my Linux notebook. I wrote down the names of two of the three files affected, but there was a third one relat...

console-setup won't update

When I tried to update LMDE2 now, console-setup and console-setup-linux failed because the source wasn't available.

Thinking/hoping that I could delete it and re-install it proved to be erroneous, so how do I fix this mess now?
