Mint 19 XFCE BETA.

Up and running fine on my old Acer Aspire 5315 Laptop (Core2duo and 3gb of Ram) Just had to add- 'video=SVIDEO-1:d' -to grub cmdline to circumvent a lot of start up error messages causing prolonged Boot times.

Re: i need wifi help?

Just to add a bit more info to the above. The problem was present on Mint 18.0.However installing LMDE Cinnamon the problem never occured, but I had log in screen problems at about the same frequency. That is,the log in screen only appeared on a random basis, just a black screen.I found that if I timed ...

Re: i need wifi help?

Sounds like the same aggravation I have with a Acer Aspire 5315 laptop.Wi-fi fails to initialise at random intervals. I can boot up half a dozen times no problem, sometimes only two or three time, then nothing.A restart is the only way to give it another kick. ########## wireless info START #########...

Re: VLC and 'Adjustments and effects' settings.

If installing a later version you need to completely remove currently installed version first. I am currently on 2.2.6 but the same problem persists.
Currently thinking of trying version 3.0.0 nightly build.

VLC and 'Adjustments and effects' settings.

VLC 2.2.2 seems to have a problem with the above settings,in that they don't work as before. For example, the zoom function does absolutely nothing! I see there is a PPA for a more recent 'daily build' but this runs into dependency issues with Mint 18.2 Anyone else having these issues. I.m on Cinnamo...

Re: I wonder if I could get a better wifi connection if I upgrade from thumbnail-sized USB wifi

Have you tried using a male/female usb cable so that you can put the Dongle in a better location higher up? I used one for quite some time and taped to the top corner of my monitor.

Re: Tea - questing for a good cup

Portreve: Good 'ole English style Tea! The Yorkshire brand tends to a little too dark for my taste.I go with brands like Ty-Phoo ,Tetleys or PG Tips. Sadly most of the popular English style teas are not available in the States,so called premium brands like Glengettie etc are the ones that get 'pushe...

Re: Screen Tearing.... when will it be solved?

The fact that a comment has been made that the problem occurs across all distro,s but only some (?) individuals, tells me there is a hardware difficulty or problem with certain hardware.in that case avoid that hardware.

Kernel 4.10 is available in the Mint Update Manager. It was slow to boot on my system. Presumably it has been checked and approved by the team.

Re: [SOLVED] Manufacturer affirms that cannot release Linux driver due to copyright. How is that possible?

Is the Laptop very old? Does it need a clean out of the heatsink/fan assembly? If you dont want to disassemble to access same then get a can of compressed air and blast it through the fan outlet with a Vacuum held against the inlet slots/holes.
