Re: Seeking advice about paper

You need to be careful & not just go for a high GSM of paper. Too high and you will get issues with the folds cracking. The printing process can add a lacquer as well, although you could go with a high gloss paper to alleviate that need. Cracking with folding can be a real issue and destroy the ...

Re: Do I need to upgrade my BIOS? If so what's the easiest way with Mint?

Create a Hiren Boot CD to install the new BIOS.

Have no idea about the errors. I would update the BIOS and see if they still remain..

Re: Backup Tool (BT)

Why is that? Just curious ... They are large and, being sandboxed, require some effort if you want them to see other parts of your installation. I much prefer to use System Packages from the Software Manager, or, in the few instances where I want the most up to date version, go to the authors web s...

Re: Sucuri website Firewall !!

I am puzzled why this discussion is still going on.. I thought I explained that Sucuri use IP Blacklists supplied by others. I also thought that I explained that it is a fairly easy process to discover which IP Blacklist generator is blacklisting any IP address. If the address needs unblocking then ...

Re: Backup Tool (BT)

No, I have never used Deja-Dup. I have only used Backup Tool. I am an avid user of VirtualBox. Whenever a new edition of Mint comes out I throw up a new guest (usually the Beta) and then use Backup Tool to try and re-create in the new version what I am using in my daily driver. There are, obviously,...

Re: Why does bug report docs NOT contain a link to the bug reports website??

You could have just selected the
Something else
option and selected exactly where you wanted to install it manually.
The
Install alongside xxxxx
is a convenient method of installation for the average user of Windows who has a very simple disk drive arrangement.

If you can remember which ones you installed, yes.. :D
To me, that was the advantage of the Applications list, I didn't need to remember..

Re: Backup Tool (BT)

Yes, in the main you are correct. A couple of things about Backup Tool though. 1. It does not register Flatpaks in its' list of Applications. 2. Themes are not backed up. 3. Applets are not backed up. I have used it often after an installation to 'gain back' my settings. The list of applications is ...

Re: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:uunicorn/open-fprintd Adding PPAs is not supported

No PPAs. Depending the use case, this may or may not be an issue for users, but it is important to note that Ubuntu PPAs do not work on LMDE. In theory, some PPAs may work, but they are few and far between. As a general rule, users should go into LMDE planning on not being able to use them. https:/...

Re: best way to "child proof" computer

There are a couple of Applications available, but they seem more concerned with time limitation than anything else.. https://github.com/marcus67/little_brother https://www.linuxuprising.com/2019/11/timekpr-next-is-linux-parental-control.html But here are a couple of discussions that might prove usef...

Re: Total system freeze copying large amount of files

Then FreeFileSync could be ideal for you - graphs showing items copied/to be copied time remaining plus 1 showing GB/MBs copied/to be copied, remaining.. Very simple to cut up into smaller 'chunks' to be copied if the huge volume is actually causing equipment problems. Plus, if it fails, what it has...

Re: Linux mint takes VERY long time to boot every single time

I've tried releasing space, nothing changes. Please help Well you need to run something like Disk Usage Analyser to see what is taking the space. Using 200+GB of space is not a small installation by any means - mine is currently running at slightly over 70GB. Are you holding data there that would b...

added more RAM to 16GB On a ridiculous whim, because I discovered I had 4 RAM bays, I have now upped mine to 32GB. In fairness to me (apart from the fact it didn't cost very much) it does make sort of sense as I use a lot of VirtualBox guests.. :D One of the other reasons that buying second hand Le...

Re: Sucuri website Firewall !!

Contacting Sucuri will probably have little impact as they use IP Blacklists generated by others. I made up an IP from your range by adding a 12 (at random) and then ran that through a Blacklist checker found at random through Google. The result is attached.. ksnip(2).png That is why Sucuri would re...

ID-1: / size: 233.18 GiB used: 217.39 GiB (93.2%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/nvme0n1p2 There's little free space left in your internal storage. This may impact its performance. You need to take action with this, as suggested by MiZoG. You need to get down to something under 80% to be sure this is not causi...

Don't know how you are copying but it might be worth trying with FreeFileSync.
