Re: Libre Office "recovery"
RIH: i'm using LM 21.3 with the LO that comes with it. Well, according to Distrowatch Mint 21.3 comes with Libre Office 7.3.7. That is certainly not the latest version. Libre Office in its' wisdom has now changed the way it generates version numbers. As far as I know, the oldest version under the &...

Re: Libre Office "recovery"
I had a spate of that a while ago. Every time I tried to open an existing Spreadsheet it would do that. Thankfully, an update came along and it totally disappeared. Not sure what version you are on, but now I am on 7.6.2.1 and that works perfectly for me. So much so that I know that there is an upda...

Re: Which partitions to use, and size?
Three more suggestions - but only because of the size of the partition you are using. 1 Do not use Timeshift. If you mess up the system you will have to start from scratch is the downside. :D 2.Do not enable any Applications that you add to be installed via Flatpaks (marked as Flathub in Software Ma...

Re: Which partitions to use, and size?
With only 60Gb of space you should not worry about partitions.
Give it all to root / & let /Home remain under it.
You don't need a swap partition, Mint will use a swap file instead..

Strange..
This is what I see. I thought then that it might be that I am a Moderator, rather than a standard member.
But I logged out completely and I still go the same result as above..

Re: How to create a persistent USB stick
I really think that you will end up with a better all-round system that way. The other alternative is to add VirtualBox to your Window system and then run Mint as a guest there. You do need a decent amount of memory to do that - 8GB is pretty near the lower limit with Windows the memory user it is n...

Re: How to create a persistent USB stick
It is probably best if you read this.. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=406601 I am a little puzzled (as are some on the other thread) why you would want to put a large persistence file rather than just do a complete install and take up the entire disk. Also, as others warn, a pen drive ...

Re: view motion-photo.heic on Linux?
A Google (& maybe other search engine search) will reveal that there are transformation applications about for Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows. However, these only seem to be about pictures formatted this way. I have not found anything (but, of course there could be :D ) that suggests a method for tr...

Re: How to install Cinnamon 21.3 onto a Windows 10 PC?
It shouldn't, but, if it does, then turn off secure boot in BIOS.
If you are going to dual boot, then also turn off hibernation (Fast startup) in your current Windows 10 installation..

Menu - Settings (Hardware) - Keyboard - Layouts tab - Click on the + icon to add new languages. After a restart you should get a country flag displayed in the right hand panel. Clicking on the flag will offer selection of keyboard languages you want to type in. If the flag does not appear.. Right mo...

Re: files and folders not visible in terminal or gui but file are there
I don't think that is the case.Could it be that the media player just remembers previous locations that do not exist anymore?
I tried playing, then deleting a video & then selecting the video again in Recent Files and it always gave me this error..

Re: files and folders not visible in terminal or gui but file are there
I am puzzled by your file permissions. It is not an area I have any expertise in but... The files that you cannot see all have the executional bit entered in your files. Any of my video files are just -rw-rw-r-- yours are att.png That only happens to me when the file can be executed and the bit is s...

Re: files and folders not visible in terminal or gui but file are there
Yes, certainly a puzzle.
I notice that you have two devices attached both called New Volume.
One being mounted, one not mounted and that these 'missing' files are on the mounted volume.
What is that about??

Re: files and folders not visible in terminal or gui but file are there
While you are playing in smplayer can you click the View tab - Information and properties. What is the file location there? Do you see the file if you enter the location found above in Nemo (File Manager). What happens if you post a completely new file in that directory?? Can it be seen, can it be p...
