Re: Best virtual machine for Linux development
I use VirtualBox.
It has its' quirks, but I understand how to use it & am happy with the results I get.
Its' major flaw is that you can't use your host GPU. That is not important to me, but would be a real disadvantage if I was a gamer.

Re: Best practice for upgrading Linux Mint
There is already some thoughts on the issue here.. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=418019 As you will see, I am of the 'completely new install' persuasion. But, like most things in Linux, what is good for me is not necessarily the best for you. :D For instance, I do not use Timeshift, a...

Re: Dialogue Window pops up when '\' key is pressed - why?
It is a search box.
It searches and selects the file corresponding with what you enter into it.
See example below when I entered "mu" into the box

Which one is not recognised??
I notice that 1 does not have the ability to check the file system (or repair it) highlighted - is that the missing one?

Re: Linuxmint didn't work with cell phones?
Well done on supplying your computer system....but what is your phone? I have never had any issues with a variety of different Android models, with a variety of Android operating systems. Have you tried adding just the memory card to your PC? Some phones do require that you alter its' setting so tha...

Re: LTS Upgrading: from Virginia 21.3 to Wilma 22
There will, almost certainly, be a path published for a inplace upgrade. Personally I will not use it. I have always done a new install & then copied across my /Home directory & Applications, using the installed "Backup Tool", for major releases. However, even before that, I will h...

Re: Not able to write / delete files on my HDDs
Well done!! I did see a couple of references to using sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdXX but there were also warnings that it could lose data from the drives. Hence I did not recommend that you tried it. None of my searches, unfortunately, found the post by pbear. If I had seen that then I would have certainly ...

Re: How to set up Virtual Machine for LM 20.2 Xfce
But more obstacles awaited. First it wanted my email address. I didn't want them to have it but entered it anyway, and then it wanted my phone number. So I entered my Google voice phone number, and Windows didn't accept it. Thus after all this trouble I won't be able to use Windows 10. Appa...

Re: Opera Linux is yesterday's tech?
I used Opera for a long time as my primary browser but it started giving me all sorts of random issues, so I moved away. I have always had multiple browsers installed as it seems the logical, first step approach, if experiencing difficulties with the web - is it the site, the internet, or the browse...

Re: Not able to write / delete files on my HDDs
No, as I said in my second post, I knew that the chown command would not work.
Sorry, I only know how to recover from this situation using a Windows machine.
You will have to wait & hope someone can give you a Linux solution..

Re: Not able to write / delete files on my HDDs
Further thoughts... Changing permissions won't work on NTFS formatted drives, so that isn't the issue. It is probably worse, in that the disks left Windows in a hibernated state & so Linux has no choice but to make them read only. The usual solution to this is to connect the drives to a W...

Re: Not able to write / delete files on my HDDs
Your inability with the hdd is probably to do with permissions. It is probably owned by root & you need to change that to yourself. To change the ownership of a file or directory in Linux, you can use the chown command. Here's the basic syntax: chown [new_owner]:[new_group] file_or_directory Rep...
Re: Librewolf
I use LibreWolf and am generally happy with it. I went there, from Opera, as Opera was giving me difficulties but I liked the "Speed Dial" method of saving favourites. LibreWolf also has the Speed Dial system. However, it is not perfect and can be "fussy" about opening certain si...

Re: What's with the snap packages or snapd?
I believe that xenopeek answered your query as well as it is possible to answer it in the prior link I gave you. How does the replacement work? Ubuntu has "fake" packages in their repository which if you install them actually install snapd and then instruct it to install the snap package f...
