Re: How to remap a (broken) key to another key?
Input Remapper - An old version should be in the repositories, but I would recommend to get V2 or newer. You may also be able to use Xbindkeys but that can be quite cumbersome.

Re: Corrupted hard drive
Try TestDisk , it is free and may be able to find the problem and even fix a broken partition table which is the usual cause for a disk suddently showing up as "RAW". It works equally good on both Linux and Windows. If all attempts to fix the drive fails, TestDisk is bundled with PhotoRec ...

Re: sudo fstrim command not found
What do you get if you run this command:
It should output "/sbin/fstrim" and a path to the (zipped) man pages. If it doesn't then fstrim is missing or your user has no access to it.
Code: Select all

Re: Random freezes running Linux Mint 19.1 on Thinkpad A485 (AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U)
AFAICT, the firmware is successfully updated. The missing "vega20_ta.bin" is only used for Vega8, ignore it. The "cryptsetup" warnings are also to be ignored. You can open a terminal and run the command: "cd /boot && ls -l initrd*" and check the time of the imag...

Re: Random freezes running Linux Mint 19.1 on Thinkpad A485 (AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U)
Are you suggesting that a kernel update alone is'nt sufficient and that i need to do a separate firmware update using the latest available package from the link provided? Yes. The firmware is the layer between the hardware and the kernel; the kernel therefore utilizes the hardware through the firmw...

Re: Ryzen 5 2400G Working Flawlessly on Mint 19.1
August 2019 and I'm still hitting my reset button daily! Which errors do you find in syslog (/var/log/syslog) just after you have reset the system after a lockup? What have you done to fix the issue? I'm running Kubuntu (fully updated) and it has been rock solid since I upgraded the firmware, a des...

Re: Random freezes running Linux Mint 19.1 on Thinkpad A485 (AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U)
A newer kernel will not fix it. Whenever you reboot after a lockup, try to check your syslog (text file /var/log/syslog) - I'm pretty sure that the error is this one: [XX.XX] [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR* ring gfx timeout, signaled seq=XX, emitted seq=XX [XX.XX] [drm] GPU recovery disab...

Re: Switch from intel to AMD with same installation of mint?
Yes, it is the iGPU which causes issues with older firmware. If your Intel system works, upgrade the firmware from there and swap the hardware. Otherwise you should be able to upgrade the firmware from the Ryzen system as well.

Re: Switch from intel to AMD with same installation of mint?
It SHOULD work and it does not hurt to try. Just remember that the Ryzen 2*00G CPU's are (or have been) quite troublesome and in order to avoid any system freezes, you should ensure that you have amdgpu firmware version 18.50 or newer installed before switching. Info on how to upgrade firmware is fo...

Re: AMD Ryzen APU Graphics problems, Oibaf drivers, Kernel v5
oh and about updating firmware? what does that mean, please don't confuse users if you do not have this hardware. I have a Ryzen 2400G on a B320M motherboard and I have had my fair share of lockups until I got the firmware updated to V18.50 using the method described in the thread I linked to. Firm...

You need to upgrade your firmware, raven ridge requires version 18.50 or newer to work properly. Look at this post.

Re: Ryzen 2200g still making trouble
Linux Mint 19.x is not stable with 2200G/2400G as is. You need at least kernel 4.19 or even better 4.20 and firmware version 18.50 or newer for raven ridge. Also see this post on how-to. Your issue may also be related to conflicting graphics adapters, try to disable iGPU in BIOS.

So, you did not install any system on it and thereby whiping all its data. Please try to run the command: "sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda" and see if any file systems are detected on the drive.

Re: Seagate Ex. HD model: ST2000DM006-2DM164
You need to provide more info, 3 drives are connected, one 2GB, one 250GB and one 150GB. What comes out if you run the command "lsblk"? TOP TIP: When you install a system, you ONLY connect the drive on which you want to install that system - all data drives are to be disconnected until the...

Re: SD card after dd commands shows 4GB capacity instead of 16 GB
When you dd a raspbian image onto a SD card, everything on that card is whiped, no way back from that. The reason why it only shows up as 4GB is because that is the size of the system partition and file system in the image. Whenever raspbian is actually run from the SD card, the file system will be ...

Re: Ryzen 2400 and Mint 19.x build - not stable
You can check the latest firmware here: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/log/ Latest Raven Ridge firmware is 18.50, dunno how to check how that version relates to Ubuntu versions. 1.173.3 is the newest for Bionic, but not the newest for Ubuntu in general: h...
