Re: KeePass2 & Mono

Once nice thing about Keepassx is that it is compatible with Keepass. So I use Keepass on my win7 computer at work - save the db file in dropbox - and then access and make changes to the db file with Keypassx on my LMDE computer at home.

Re: [LMDE] xchat (>=libperl5.10.1) - Can't reinstall {SOLVED

I live on xchat (couldn't make it through the day at work without it) so i appreciate the heads up here and have chosen not to take the perl updates for the time being. Should I continue to wait for a fix to come down the pipe and hold off on updates for the time being or should I just bight the bul...

Re: When to Reboot?

Thanks for the replies. Are most updated services/programs restarted after an update by the system?

When to Reboot?

Is there a general rule about rebooting after taking updates? I'm running LMDE as a home media and backup server and its kind of fun to see how high I can get my uptime. But I don't want to miss applying any important updates that have been installed.

thx

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 30 mar 2011

@barryp From the original site I linked: http://www.held.org.il/blog/2010/01/debian-nfs-kernel-server-is-broken-or-portmap-to-rpcbind-transition/ He keeps adding updates and I'm not sure exactly when he added what. I never followed any of his steps like: c. Put an init script in /etc/init.d/rpcbind ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 30 mar 2011

I should mention too - for those keeping a running total on here - I seem to be one of the lucky ones to have received no ill effect from updating to the newer kernel. It looks like all of the updates took fine and after a reboot everything appears to be up and running as normal.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 30 mar 2011

Update regarding NFS breakage from a few pages back: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=67502&start=180 I just ran a sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -s dist-upgrade To see what was showing up in terminal (after completing a fairly large update, including new kernel upgrade, in the...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 30 mar 2011

But getting to know how to use "Clonezilla" is a must. When it breaks, your back up and running in 10 minutes. Would you or anyone else care to post a short tutorial or a list of best practices for using clonezilla with lmde? I've run it once and successfully made an image (I think) but that was aw...

And isn't it nice to finally see a bit of sunshine here in the Northwest? Yeah, it's freaking me out just a bit. :lol: I've actually forgotten what blue sky looks like. From the site I posted a link to: UPDATE2: THE BUG WAS SOLVED! Alexander Wirt patched nfs-kernel-server: by removing the linkage o...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 30 mar 2011

@ciaW - Glad it was of some help. Are you planning on reinstalling portmap after it is updated and in the repos or will you just leave things as you are. I just ended up downgrading nfs-kernel-server and nfs-common to get my nfs mounts back up and running and am hoping an upgrade to fix this issue w...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 30 mar 2011

My nfs shares/mounts are also broken after the most recent update. Does anyone else have any info or idea if a fix is on its way or do i need to downgrade to the previous version of nfs packages? Thanks for your time and help. UPDATE: Found a work around - replace portmap with rpcbind: http://www.he...

It's basically the same as in Synaptic itself. tjweaver: Can you give me more information about this? A screenshot? I...

I take it this package isn't needed?
I also just removed this, not because i was having issues - but because of this post. Is there any reason for me to reinstall and have this running?

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 16 mar 2011

That is why this thread should be the first thing that people read when they access the LMDE part of the forum. Unfortunately that is not happening at the moment, you have to go and look for this thread first. I'd suggest going a step further and subscribing to this thread. That way if there are an...

craig10x wrote:So, just to clarify...when doing the updates, all that is necessary to type into the terminal is this:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Is that correct?

My understanding is to now run:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
