Corsair K95 Keyboard with CKB software

If you are in love with RGB keyboards and thinking of getting the K95 Corsair keyboard (or any of their other flashy products), you'll need to get the CKB software working. Unfortunately, the old developer for CKB has decided to focus his efforts on other things, which means the project is not being...

Re: Non-Samba file shares

I'm pretty sure samba is still available. I am connected as a client to a samba server, and it looks like the samba package is sitting in the package manager. $ apt-cache pkgnames | grep samba python-samba vlc-plugin-samba samba-dbg samba-dev gadmin-samba fusiondirectory-plugin-samba samba samba-dsd...

Gnome-Do and Kupfer preferences won't open [SOLVED]

Solution: Gnome-Do and Kupfer are essentially abandoned. Use Synapse instead. I installed gnome-do, but the preferences page wouldn't open. I click the "preferences" button, but nothing happens. I installed Kupfer, and I got the same behavior. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? Linux Mi...

Re: [TUTORIAL] Installing Mint on a Windows 8/8.1/10 Compute

Thanks for writing this, the UEFI thing is going to seriously slow Linux adoption in the coming years. Some systems have "mixed" UEFI modes. That is a 32 bit UEFI with a 64 bit processor. They are a pain in the butt to set up. You'll need to add instructions to check for this, and instructions for h...

HOWTO: Keep laptop alive when laptop is closed

Problem: You are using LinuxMint 17.2 Rafaela. Your laptop is connected to an external monitor. When you close your laptop, it suspends, causing the external monitor to go dark. These solutions are the order you should try: A. Use Built-In Menu 1. Click Menu > Preferences > Settings. Scroll down to...

Re: Mint 17.3 Cinnamon crashing on Dell with 512MB of RAM

I have found that some Linuxes just don't play well with some machines. I really like linux mint, but you may save some stress by running another mature desktop Linux which has a different build. I would try these: 1. Straight Debian with a light desktop environment like XFCE. Linux Mint is built on...

HOWTO: Four Solutions to Chrome/Chromium with no audio

Scenario: You have Chrome or Chromium installed and the application produces no sound. Most other applications produce sound. This is NOT for a system that plays NO sound. Note: You can install the proprietary version of Google Chrome here . This has the benefit of being compatible with DRM control...

incomplete man page for nemo?

I just noticed the man pages for nemo are really sparse. It makes a general reference to "standard gnome options," but I don't know how to look those up.

Does anyone know where I can find more information?

Re: Mint 17.2 Cant connect to network at all

Are you connecting via wireless or by an ethernet cable? Can you post your interfaces file here for us to review? It sounds like your kernel doesn't support your NIC, which sucks, but its not uncommon. Edit: This blog post should have some clues for how to install the non-free binary: https://unixbl...

Amazon Prime Video is broken again...

**FIXED** I installed google chrome. I got the .deb file from this page: https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/ I then used gDebi to install the package. Not a great fix, but it works for now. Hi everybody, Sometime in the last 48 hours Amazon Prime video stopped working for me. I don't have...

[FIXED] WakeOnLan stops working after a day or so?

Solution: I switched the server to Debian CLI-only. Hi guys, I set up wakeonlan for a device which has a direct ethernet connection to my router. Wakeonlan works after I set it up. Then I ssh in to remotely turn it off and wake it again. This works repeatedly. The next day I'll sit down and try it a...

Re: [SOLVED] Fix the suspend/hibernate issue

Update: The nouveau drivers seem stable, but I'm also pretty sure I've borked my installation. There are nvidia driver references through my Xorg.conf file. I'm going to have to do a clean install (again.) No biggie. Before I do that, however, I'm going to try the proprietary driver I just downloade...

Re: [SOLVED] Fix the suspend/hibernate issue

UPDATE: Root cause discovered! It was the NVIDIA driver. The problem "magically" disappeared, and I figured out why. I disabled the NVIDIA drivers and went into low power/low performance mode (intel). After doing this suspend and hibernate worked flawlessly. To go into power saving mode, simply open...

[SOLVED] What happened to udevinfo?

It was replaced by $udevadm a long time ago.

Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon

I'm trying to query the rules from my wireless lan card using udevinfo, but apparently that command doesn't exist in this build.

Udev is here, and udev rules exist. How am I supposed to get attributes and whatnot?

Re: the best anti virus software for Linux mint?

Hi! A lot of people are saying you don't need anti-virus software, but they aren't explaining why it isn't necessary. In the Linux filesystem, all the important things are locked down with file permissions. It is very difficult for a new executable file to show up on your machine and do anything. No...

[SOLVED] Fix the suspend/hibernate issue

Summary: Could you help me fix my suspend/resume feature on my laptop? Conclusion: The problem lies in my NVIDIA drivers. Placing my laptop in power saving mode fixed the issue, but denied me my NVIDIA goodness. I'll make a separate issue for this if I can't figure it out myself. I have documented ...
