Re: SOLVED sort of - Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 internal WiFi works, Panda PAU06 don't.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. When I run my MacBook with my Panda PAU07 plugged in (something only done to try to help you as my internal adapter works great) and then click on the network icon at the right side of the panel I see what is in the screen shot below. In this case I am connected to wifi via ...

Re: SOLVED sort of - Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 internal WiFi works, Panda PAU06 don't.

Hi John, I experimented with my laptop (oid MacBook running LM 18.3 Xfce) and learned a few things. Hopefully some or all of this will work for you. 1. Start up your laptop with the Panda wifi adapter plugged in. You may as well boot under kernel 4.4. 2. [This step is probably a waste of time.] Open...

I have no idea what you need to get your work done, but have you looked at gnome-color-chooser from the repos?

Re: Left click and right click choice?

As austin.texas said you can choose to open/select a folder or file with 1-click or a double-click from the settings/preferences of the file manager. For Xfce at least, you modify the double-click speed of the mouse from the mouse settings manager. (Sorry, I don't know the exact terms for Cinnamon b...

Re: Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 but it is not showing in Grub

I just read your SOLVED!!!! response as I was typing up the stuff below. Congratulations! I will post it anyway in case it helps someone else later ... None of them will recognize the Panda PAU06 adapter as a Plug 'n Play. Maybe that is only valid for the 600 N dual band model? PAU06 was plug & ...

Re: Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 but it is not showing in Grub

If you take the Panda out of the computer, boot up with the 4.4.0-109 kernel, does your internal wifi adapter work? Doesn't that solve the problem, or am I missing something?
[Edit: Oh, I seem to remember that your internal adapter is difficult to run if you change kernels,no?]

Re: Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 but it is not showing in Grub

since there is already an internal WiFi adapter, is that going to cause the Panda to not be recognized? Sorry, I don't know but someone else will. Perhaps there is a command that will disable the internal? That would allow you to see if the Panda adapter will work as plug & play under the most ...

Re: Notification Applet Font

gnome-color-chooser (from the Software Manager) can change the font size of the panel constituents. I don't have any text among the icons in my Notification Area so I can't say whether it will work for that. In gnome-color-chooser select the Panel tab. Under the Panel heading is font. A context wind...

Re: Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 but it is not showing in Grub

Which Panda USB adapter did you get? I have the Panda Wireless PAU07 N600 Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter. It was plug and play. That is, I connected it to the computer, started up the computer, after a while I clicked on the little network icon in my panel chose my wireless network and entered my ...

Re: SOLVED - Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 and lost WiFi

my laptop is not vulnerable to the Spectre and Meltdown issue anyway. Doesn't your Asus TP500L have an Intel processor? https://www.techarp.com/guides/complete-meltdown-spectre-cpu-list/ (click on desktop or mobile?) Microsoft released patches for the Windows OS Yes, but (unless I am mistaken) that...

Re: SOLVED - Upgraded to Kernel 4.13 and lost WiFi

Running kernel 4.10 is a bit of a gamble. It is either at its end of life this month https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack (see bottom of page) or life ended in May 2017. http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1705.2/04097.html Further, it will not be patched for the Meltdown issue . ...

Re: Another slow boot question

Thanks, it was a long shot. My old MacBook was produced in late 2006 or early 2007 so the 2006 date of the driver didn't alarm me. It is the newest for my gpu on the Intel site. This MacBook is one of those with a 32-bit EFI and 64-bit cpu. I am running 64-bit LM by bypassing the EFI.

Re: Another slow boot question

This is pure speculation ... I've read here about people who have prolonged black screen occurrences during start-up due to an Nvidia gpu. I have some prolonged black screen, too, although I don't know if that is normal or not under Linux for this old MacBook. The MacBook under OS X 10.7.5 didn't bo...

Re: Unusual Kernel 4.13 issue

In the absence of other more sophisticated fixes, you could try to roll back the kernel to the newest in the 4.4 series (4.4.0-109?) and see if everything works (not just the screensaver problem). The 4.4 kernel series, like the 4.13 series, has the Meltdown patch. On startup your computer will defa...

Some machines respond to the Esc key or they respond to one shift key and not the other (left vs right).

Re: Installed Kernel 4.13 now the boot menu selection doesn't show

I don't know if those errors can be ignored or not. I've read that this may be a bug with your text editor. Another suggestion I read was that the owner of /etc/default/grub is not root. The latter is easy to check. I don't know terminal commands very well so I'll tell you a GUI method. Open your fi...

Re: Installed Kernel 4.13 now the boot menu selection doesn't show

For the grub problem did you try to insert the line that austin.texas suggested? GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE="menu" or GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=menu Insert it just above the last line in: GRUB_DEFAULT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 In this case I've seen menu mor...

Re: Installed Kernel 4.13 now the boot menu selection doesn't show

Just for clarity ... was following this info: https://askubuntu.com/questions/16042/how-to-get-to-the-grub-menu-at-boot-time That procedure says to add one # sign GRUB_DEFAULT=0 # GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true The article I found said to use two # signs. GRUB_DEFAULT=0 # GRUB_...

Re: Another slow boot question

I did another test with the computer set to password required for login. After pushing the power-on button it took ... about 40 sec for an orange group of lines to flash on the screen, about 59 sec to when the Mint logo showed up on the display, and about 1 min 33 sec until the login box appeared.
