There are so many reasons to dislike Windows, but the notifier is much prettier. It'd be nice if we could get a bit more out of the icon space as a visual indicator rather than 16pix micro-icons.

Is it possible to make larger cinnamon notification window icons
I'd like to have larger icons in the notification windows in Cinnamon. Mine look like this: Notification_window.png The icon is quite wee. It'd be more useful and pleasing if I could adjust the size, and optimally preserve aspect ratio. I saw this and was hopeful, but alas, not relevant to Mint-Y-Da...

Re: Upgrade will trigger "The following packages will be removed:"
Something (past in-place upgrade, messing with PPAs, other linux-risky behavior) left ffmpeg borked (thanks @billyswong for the critical hint). Using aptitude I ended up desinstalling the savory1 ffmpeg and got past some issue with library incompatibility by reinstalling from source https://trac.ffm...

ooh, good advice, thanks: ffmpegbillyswong wrote: ⤴Sun Apr 16, 2023 1:54 pm It can be due to a particular package being provided a buggy update. Try uncheck the update list one by one and test it each time, hopefully you may be able to isolate which package is going to cause this issue.

[SOLVED] Upgrade will trigger "The following packages will be removed:"
Linux Mint 21 5.15.0-69-generic Running update from the Update Manager warns me that a rather extensive list of intentionally installed packages will be removed, enough that it would be a major hassle to reinstall them. This list isn't selectable for copy-paste to build a not insanely tedious reinst...

Re: how can i Ignore Timeshift for upgrade in place
if it gets confused (mine did) try:
should create the file that the upgrade check looks for to validate timeshift is installed. I'm not sure why mine wasn't at the expected location, but it wasn't and this quick fix got past the error.
Code: Select all
# sudo touch /etc/timeshift.json

Re: [SOLVED] MATE (MINT 18.1 Serena) disable window docking when dragging
Where is this "Enable side by side tiling" you speak of? It is not in my windows->placement options panel on 19.1/Mate. I /h8/ window snapping so much, one of the worst, most idiotic, ill-conceived transgressions of any rational UI design I've ever had the displeasure of having foisted on ...

Re: Mint 17 KDE, Bluetooth, and a Logitech MX Master, not happy
Just as a random data point - I got my anywhere MX 2 fully paired up, trusted, connected and the rest, but nothing from the mouse - no movement no nothing. Tried using the unifying receiver on a different channel - which connected as expected. Switching back to the bluetooth channel previously set u...

Cut my losses, reinstalled 18.3, rebooted. Came up fine. The big hassle is, of course, reverting the insufferable "Quantum" to Firefox 52 LTS.

18.3 Hang on boot at NVIDIA Persistence Daemon
18.3/Mate running on a HP Zbook 15 G2 with UHD display (means no switchable graphics in BIOS). Updated BIOS to 1.21 to see if it would help (no effect, but running the latest BIOS is a reasonable thing to do) NVIDIA grapics card/NVIDIA proprietary drivers (working fine for ~5 years now) Rebooted aft...

Re: xrandr giving odd results (mixing up DFP-4 and DPF-6?) not able to set resolution
zomg.... 4096x2160 is back. new monitor, the last one finally ate it with a power outage. I had two more of these models simply become unresponsive to power after a power failure (no friendly bleeble on power up). Not a universal failure, but in one location 2 of 16 running (all 16 on windows, all a...

Re: xrandr giving odd results (mixing up DFP-4 and DPF-6?) not able to set resolution
Yeah, Alas, quite sure it worked. I'll take my laptop in to work where I have 3 of these monitors connected to a windows box... I was quite happy when I got it going at 4096x2160 before and sad it isn't doing so any more. I can enable scaling in the monitor, but the result is unacceptably blurry. Bl...

I'm sorry - it took me a really long time to get back to this, was traveling and away from the monitor. I /finally/ updated 10-monitor.conf with the new modeline you provided "4096x2160_60" 556.730 4096 4104 4136 4176 2160 2208 2216 2222 +hsync +vsync and it was also rejected by the graphi...

Re: Kworker/USB maxing out single core
Hi phd21, Thank you for your help. This seems to be solved. I've left the computer on for a few days now and the issue hasn't returned - CPU use is normal and I credit the auto-suspend disable change. Summary: CPU usage on one core maxes out, seemingly at random, but most likely after the machine ha...

Re: Kworker/USB maxing out single core
I made the same error, conditioned to associate "k" with KDE. Updated the OS/kernel and am using the recommended drivers for video (nvidia-367) and the intel microcode driver. There aren't any others suggested. I did run it from a su terminal. If helpful, i can run it from a normal user. I...

Re: Kworker/USB maxing out single core
The "k" in kworker stands for kernel, not KDE. I'm running XFCE. There's some good info in The Linus' bug report at https://lkml.org/lkml/2010/8/15/111 . It is a long standing bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/717919 and others here have seen it https://forums.linux...

SOLVED Kworker/USB maxing out single core
This seems to be a recurring issue and most recent solutions seem to center around unplugging USB devices. The only USB device attached to my laptop is my mouse (my keyboard is PS/2). Detaching my mouse didn't resolve the CPU load, though it seems to be USB-related based on stack traces. While I'm h...
