Re: Update Error

Just to be sure, you tried changing the Mirrors in Software Sources & clicked 'Update the cache' after? Hmm, I can't find any such button. Maybe I'm just tired but I'll find out You might try clicking 'Restore the default settings' if that doesn't work. I'm not sure if that launchpad.net can be saf...

Update Error

Hi all, My Mint (Cinnamon 19 Tara) has been updating normally until recently. Although, I have no idea what could have been causing it, whenever it tries to fetch available updates via update manager, it repeatedly returns with this error: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/dyatlov-igor/la-cap...

Peculiar (corrupted?) image files

Several times now I've noticed pictures (.jpg files) that I can access on other machines appear corrupted on my machine now. Instead of having a file name like "file.jpg" they'll be called "._file.jpg" and won't display at all in any image viewing program. It's not consistent either because other .j...

Re: Won' t boot after update. Need big help here!

Weird then. The only other option I see is that something modified your /etc/fstab, but no update would do that. I certainly didn't do that! I wouldn't even know why I'd attempt to do so :| Since you know that timeshift works I suggest to take the plunge and apply all updates again. If things break...

Re: Won' t boot after update. Need big help here!

I don't think this was due to a faulty update, this looks more like the update process had been interrupted. It couldn't even mount your root partition anymore, but if you say timeshift did restore it that means the problem wasn't with the disk itself. Do you have automatic updates enabled? Maybe y...

Did you have Timeshift set up to take snapshots? If so, you can run Timeshift from a live USB/DVD.
Hi, thanks for the reply :-)

I did, but I don't think it'll stop it from happening again if it's an issue with an update as I have no idea which update it was

Re: Transfer from Windows 10

I really like reading stories like this ! Yes, GNU/Linux (and free software in general) is awesome ! And thanks to Ubuntu and now Mint, it's so accessible to so many people :) Also to hear that you're open minded and doing all this yet almost 80 is really wonderful. I hope I can still be open to new...

Re: Firewall won't open

None of those commands update your python version to 3.7.1 as far as I know. So how did you do it? Probably just an accident somehow. I don't remember how I did it. To be honest I'd suggest at this point timeshifting back to before you updated Python to 3.7.1. If you need Python 3.7.1 in addition t...

Can you remember what you did with Python?
I'm pretty sure I just installed the newest version of Python as a guide as described

Try apt install --reinstall python3
Did that. Firewall configuration still doesn't appear.

Does sudo update-alternatives --config python3 give you the option to set Python 3.6.7 as the default?
It returns only this:

Code: Select all

update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for python3

Re: Firewall won't open

Sounds like something broken in your python install. What does python --version and python3 --version run in a terminal return. Also apt policy python3-gi & apt policy python-gi Ah ! That could have something to do with it as I was dealing with Python a few days back "python --version" returns this...

Code: Select all

apt install --reinstall gufw
I did this and it seemed to successfully re-install without a hitch but I still have the same problem - enter my password and nothing happens.

Firewall won't open

Hi all, I've got a little problem here with the Firewall configuration application (running Mint 19 with Cinnamon). Wondering if anyone could aid me with an error I've been receiving whenever I update via Update Manager on Mint 19 (Cinnamon): W: Target Packages (multiverse/binary-amd64/Packages) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list:2 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/additional-repositories.li...

Hibernate doesn't work [Dell Inspiron laptop 5535]

Hello all, I've attempted to put my laptop on hibernate several times but all it does is go black and freeze, and I'm unable to wake it from hibernation by pressing any button or doing anything. I just end up having to turn the computer off completely and turning it back on, losing all my processes ...

Re: Boot load time

I've seen that mentioned here and there in the forums. There was often a viable solution. I suppose that some older hardware setups might just not have that capability , but I think many do even if there is some "tweaking" required. IDK, but you might post a thread specifically for that issue and e...
