Re: Notifications Issue

Thanks for that info. It looks like the notifications were turned off. Also, as an aside, the notifications are turned off in Vivaldi browser (always have been). I took screenshots of both items you mentioned. BTW, it would not let me change the custom value in the timeout. Screenshot from 2022-11-0...

Re: Notifications Issue

I went to the main menu, put in "Notifications" into the search box, clicked on "Notifications", then under "Notification Settings", where it says "Enable Notifications", turned it to the off setting.

Notifications Issue

Currently on Mint Cinnamon 21 with all updates on a Dell 7480. My browser is Vivaldi. When I was running Mint Cinnamon 20.3, I had desktop notifications turned off, but kept getting them - some of them were double notifications for the same e-mails (tutanota mail using browser), some are single noti...

Re: Updating Issues

Thanks sleeper12.

When I looked for the SANE (scanner drivers) in my PPA's, it wasn't there. I re-added the SANE PPA, and the problem seems gone.

I will update the subject to solved after a couple of days making sure it really is fixed.

Re: Updating Issues

Thanks. Not sure if it works until the next update. Will let you know. In the mean time, here is the output from doing that which also contains error messages: david@david-OptiPlex-7010:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a [sudo] password for david: Setting up libsane:i386 (1.0.31+git20200904-bionic1) ... Re: Updating Issues

It happened again with Chrome.

Not sure if this helps, but the problem started after September 5, and I took this screenshot of updates and noticed there was a flurry of libsane related updates just before the problems started:

Re: Updating Issues

I don't have the boot media anymore, and the last time I did a full fresh install was when 19.0 first came out. I've just done updates to get to 19.3. Can I execute that command in the terminal while logged into the installed 19.3, or do I have to do it from the boot media running live? If it has to...

Linux Kernel Memory Leaks Fix

This is not a request for help, just a question. I read a few (or many?) months ago, the Google folks found many memory leaks (I think that is what they are called) in the Linux Kernel, and they were going to be fixed in one of the kernel releases sometime in the first half of 2020. Does anyone know...

Re: Can't Log In

Thanks, using Timeshift had occurred to me, but she is not technically minded, plus she doesn't have a USB with Mint on it to run Mint live.

Can't Log In

I installed Cinnamon Mint 19.3 64bit on to a friend's Dell Latitude E7440 with a Kingston SSD. She wanted a dual boot when I installed Linux, so it is alongside the latest Windows 10. It has worked perfectly until her cat walked over the keyboard one day when the laptop was on and running. After tha...

I tried that one a couple of years ago, and I just could not get it to work. I even asked for help on this forum, but could not get it resolved.

CyberPower PowerPanel Personal Linux software

I'm looking at getting a new UPS, and one of the issues I have with my APC unit is there is no Linux UPS control software from APC. However, I noticed that CyberPower does have Linux software. The only concern I have is when I was reading about it on the CyberPower site, they state it is compatible ...

Re: Tip: a super lightweight Linux

OH WOW!!

Thanks Pjotr, I installed it, and it runs flawlessly. Mint xfce 32 bit ran pretty good, but there was still a little video tearing with any browser, but this runs really well with zero video tearing.

Thanks for taking the time to post your tip about Bodhi Linux. Much appreciated.

Re: Tip: a super lightweight Linux

My computer that I'm going to try Bodhi with (specs above), is actually a pretty snappy computer with the 4Gb RAM and Samsung SSD, but the bottleneck is the video graphics. With every distro I've tried, there is video tearing. On another thread about this, I was told the video in this computer is so...
