Re: (Solved) Epson Scanner not usable since update to Mint 19 - Pipe error

Hopefully someone who is more technically proficient than I am will try and help, but one thing I did note that sounds too simple: When I did this, it did not work until I did a restart. Give it a try, who knows.

Re: Curious - When Does Nemo 4.0 Make it to Mint 19?

OK thanks. That is why I asked. When I read the blog, I could not tell if that was indicating 4.0 was for an upcoming version of Mint, or if it was a soon-to-come update on the current version.

Curious - When Does Nemo 4.0 Make it to Mint 19?

I'm just wondering if this will be part of the updates, or how that works.

Thanks phd21. I do prefer having the up-to-date versions, so I will install that PPA. Appreciate the info.

Hey! Thanks for reminding me of gscan2pdf. I had forgotten to install that after installing Cinnamon 19. I like that program.

Re: (Solved) Epson Scanner not usable since update to Mint 19 - Pipe error

I am no expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but the fix was only meant to fix the scanner not being recognised. If it scans at all, then the fix worked. My guess here is you need to find a specific driver for your model that works with Linux. Can't help you there, but doing a search for a Eps...

Video Locks Computer

Sometimes when I start a video by clicking on the file name, just as VLC starts (I have set it as the default), it locks everything up. The mouse will still move around, but it seems I can do nothing but a (REISUB). It does not happen often percentage wise, but I edit videos a lot, so this seems to ...

Thanks so much for this! I was going bonkers trying to find out what was causing this issue and getting nowhere until I read your post.
Now that you're not going bonkers from this issue, you can change your name to NoLongerWackyWalt. Welcome to the forum NoLongerWackyWalt.

Re: Incredibly Slow Boot Time with New Mint 19 Installation (Solved)

Just an FYI for anyone else: After removing 4.15.0- 24 , an update for Linux kernel 4.15.0- 26 appeared in the update manager. I thought, wow, version 26 is here, so I installed it. After I rebooted, I had the same looooong boot issue as before. When I went to the Update Manager to view the kernels,...

Re: Incredibly Slow Boot Time with New Mint 19 Installation

Thank you! Fixed. Wow, that was fast. (and now so is my boot time) One thing to note, I had to press Shift before the logo to get into the grub menu. Also, I had 4.15.0- 23 , and using it seems to have done the trick. Really appreciate your help gm10, and I also really appreciate the great people on...

Incredibly Slow Boot Time with New Mint 19 Installation (Solved)

I installed Mint 19 Cinnamon on my Toshiba Satellite L770D with a 128Gb Samsung SSD, and 8Gb RAM. Before Mint 19, I had Mint 18 Cinnamon on it, and before that was Mint 17 Cinnamon. When I installed Mint 19, I did a fresh install. When I turn on the laptop, it quickly boots to the point where you se...

Re: File Copying Configuration Question

That Grsync is fantastic. I've been working with it, and love how simple and straightforward it is. In hindsight, I probably could have used the already familiar FreeFileSync that I used for incremental backups, and I bet FreeFileSync uses rsync as its back end, but the Grsync is so clean and simple...

Re: File Copying Configuration Question

Thank you for that. I normally prefer GUI interfacing, but if learning that solves my problem, then I'm going to learn how to use the rsync command. Seems like I always get dragged kicking and screaming into the terminal. I've done some reading on it already, and I really like the things it can do. ...

File Copying Configuration Question (Solved)

I'm wondering how to change a default configuration setting when copying files from one drive or folder to another. I sometimes have to copy very large folders/files from one drive to another, often over 300Gb worth of data (I do some video editing & creation). When I start the copy, it will say som...

Re: Samba Setup - Mint 19 Cinnamon

OK, thanks for that information - it helps. I will see what I can do to figure out how to resolve the address issue with the routers, and try the Samba share again. I'll post back here whether it works or not. Thanks again for all your help and time in working to resolve this for me. It is much appr...
