Re: Why I just Dumped Clonezilla and am using Macrium Reflect Rescue Instead

Using Macrium from bootable cd/usb works with Linux but you can't benefit from schedule backups; that demands working from the OS. A couple of irritating limitations with Clonezilla is not working with the OS running and not providing differential/incremental backups. Oh, and that UI, if you can cal...

Re: Why I just Dumped Clonezilla and am using Macrium Reflect Rescue Instead

Macrium Reflect is one of the programs that makes me miss Windows :(
I totally understand your decision of using it from another computer. Clonezilla is a reliable clone app but it pales in comparison to Macrium.

Re: building a gaming computer for Linux Mint 19.2

I ordered a Razer Raptor 27" monitor directly from Razer. WQHD IPS 2560 x 1440 with 144Hz refresh rate, HDR400, 1ms response time, and supports both AMD Freesync and NVIDIA G-sync compatible standards. My question is this...will the above video card suffice to fully utilize the brilliant range of t...

Re: building a gaming computer for Linux Mint 19.2

I believe he is specifically referring to the Ryzen 7 3700X No, I'm referring to Ryzen in general. TechPowerUp only managed a 4.2GHz OC on the 2700X (on air cooling) and that's with a very high 1.4 volts, see snapshot. For catweazel to manage those clocks he showed he has to have a very exotic liqu...

Nonsense. My Ryzen 2700X server is running at 5GHz.
With respect I have to take that with a large grain of salt.

What if I decide to over-clock?
Overclock brings meagre gains with Ryzen, I'd leave it on stock.
If you must delve into overclock better go with Intel.

Which list would you all choose?
I'd choose the 3700X for its lower power consumption.

Also, do I need the CPU cooler (Scythe Ninja 5 43.03 CFM CPU Cooler) if the AMD Ryzen has a built in cooling fan??
AMD's included CPU cooler is enough.

Re: building a gaming computer for Linux Mint 19.2

The Ryzen 3700X is cheaper than the Intel you chose and close in performance; unfortunately the motherboards are more expensive, which narrows the gap.

Ubuntu 19.10 Deb to Snap Transition

Found this video very interesting; I'm not a fan of how Ubuntu is evolving.

I do not see why someone would pay for an email provider when so many great free email providers are available
To host your own domain email, for ex. Many Fastmail users do just that.

Re: Email client like Thunderbird?

There are two questions here: the client (software), and the provider (service). Right. Sticking to the thread title Email client like Thunderbird? I'd say there's nothing like Thunderbird, it's a unique combination of features, stability and ease of use; plus, as usual with Mozilla apps, it's very...

I saw information only for the cinnamon desktop. Do we know if LM 19.1 MATE will implement it too?
As far as I know it's Cinnamon specific. With Mate or Xfce you'll have to install a dock as others mentioned above.

Re: Windows like panel

Hello, I like windows panel (when the open app stays highlighted on the same icon you clicked to open it) and I think this kind of panel helps my productivity. If I understand what you're saying you'll have it in the upcoming Mint 19.1, Cinnamon edition, with the "modern" desktop layout. https://ww...

Good suggestion about 24" being the largest monitor
I also find 24" to be a sweet spot, particularly on 16:10 aspect ratio, which unfortunately is becoming rare :(

Re: Question about multiple monitors vs one larger display size monitor

I prefer a large monitor where I can put two windows side by side, but this is one of those "personal preferences"; there's no right solution here, no one size fits all.
Advantages of my choice: less clutter on the desk, less cables.
