I do not see why someone would pay for an email provider when so many great free email providers are available
To host your own domain email, for ex. Many Fastmail users do just that.

Re: Email client like Thunderbird?

There are two questions here: the client (software), and the provider (service). Right. Sticking to the thread title Email client like Thunderbird? I'd say there's nothing like Thunderbird, it's a unique combination of features, stability and ease of use; plus, as usual with Mozilla apps, it's very...

I saw information only for the cinnamon desktop. Do we know if LM 19.1 MATE will implement it too?
As far as I know it's Cinnamon specific. With Mate or Xfce you'll have to install a dock as others mentioned above.

Re: Windows like panel

Hello, I like windows panel (when the open app stays highlighted on the same icon you clicked to open it) and I think this kind of panel helps my productivity. If I understand what you're saying you'll have it in the upcoming Mint 19.1, Cinnamon edition, with the "modern" desktop layout. https://ww...

Good suggestion about 24" being the largest monitor
I also find 24" to be a sweet spot, particularly on 16:10 aspect ratio, which unfortunately is becoming rare :(

Re: Question about multiple monitors vs one larger display size monitor

I prefer a large monitor where I can put two windows side by side, but this is one of those "personal preferences"; there's no right solution here, no one size fits all.
Advantages of my choice: less clutter on the desk, less cables.

Thanks.

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

@sichenia

Spend some time with Xfce. It's not as configurable as KDE (nothing is :) ) but I think it'll have what you need.

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Kubuntu is the closest to Mint KDE you'll find. The jump is pretty much straightforward.

How Many PPAs Do You Have?

Since Mint is based on LTS versions there are inherent limitations with repositories as to the version of most programs. PPAs are an obvious workaround to those apps of which we must (for whatever reason) have the latest version. So do you use PPAs to some programs, how many, and has the experience ...

Re: Firefox 57 Quantum -- add-ons

EUREKA!!! Seems I found a replacement for No Squint Plus, which seems to "forget" per site setting in Quantum. The alternative? Zoom Page WE NoSquint has stopped being developed sometime ago, so there's no web extension version. The advised replacement was Zoom Page which, as you found out, is comp...

Considering the limited options it would be Windows; I don't consider myself worthy of The Mac Experience

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

Gnome 3 has most tools to be customized to something similar to Unity in the form of extensions. I hope Canonical will partner with the developers of some of the best (Dash to Dock comes to mind immediately) instead of writing from scratch and make the same mistake again of not mating with upstream ...

Re: Subscribing to threads

I agree with the OP, there are things in this forum that leave to be desired, the thread subscription should be activated by default (and yes, having the box pre-checked is misleading), when clicking on a link it should open a new tab, when posting and using the back button one should be sent back t...
