Re: RIP Dr. Elizabeth D. Malpass-SFASU

She really made an impact. I thought she would be teaching for at least another ten years, and hoped my youngest daughter could have been blessed to take her classes. Alas it is not to be. Oh well she is in the afterlife having tea with the greats.

RIP Dr. Elizabeth D. Malpass-SFASU

I just found out that Dr. Elizabeth Deanne Malpass, professor of History at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches passed away earlier this year. This is personal for me, because in 1978 I entered the university as an undergrad, and after the first semester changed from Journalism to Hist...

Re: New Build in coming

That would cause a serious "melt-down", and would almost be funny to see. Both are really good kids, and so I am somewhat willing to help them within reason, since they could be worse, much worse. I am blessed with my kids. But the oldest has started taking over my desktop again, since she claims h...

Re: New Build in coming

You can of course really rub it into her, just tell her that her next phone will not only ba a flip phone, but it will be one of those "old" folks "Jitterbug" flips with the very large key pads on it designed for old feeble eyes and hands to manipulate...heheheheheh...DAMIEN https://www.greatcall.c...

Re: New Build in coming

Hi Murphy, Just tell her you know a guy, (Me), who not only still uses a flip phone, but also has an original "motorola razor" flip phone as a backup...lol...DAMIEN I will. Her Uncle Brad still uses a Motorola Razer as his phone. So does her grandfather. When her grades slipped, I told her she was ...

Re: New Build in coming

That laptop has 3 fans and vents everywhere, looks like a nice little heater for the winter. That 80% battery charging is to prolong Lithium ion battery life, I use an app on my cell phone for the same thing. Your gamer daughter seen your new toy yet? Remember, Resistance is futile  She has th...

Re: New Build in coming

They use my desktop in preference to their laptops. If they already have laptops, you can just get monitors, keyboard, mouse (with docking station?) for their laptop. Then they can use the same machine for everything. By itself, laptops are not really productivity machines anyway and just having th...

Re: New Build in coming

Two daughters, one a hard core gamer. One who wants to use a bigger monitor for homework..... I'm also a father of two daughters. Never underestimate the manipulative acumen of daughters (I still do from time to time, unfortunately).... They are almost as bad as the darn puppy, they just ...

New Build in coming

Well, I have decided its time to get the kids their own desktop so they quit using mine for gaming and homework (they like my dual monitors for their homework, etc). They use my desktop in preference to their laptops. Since both are in college and are required to do homework in Microsoft Office to t...

I just ordered some more Pu'Er tea from Rishi tea. I really like the flavor, and I get two brews from the leaves.

Re: Linux is Not Windows

I really miss that "feature" from Mandrake where you could load different window managers and find one you liked. Back in the day, I think I spent more time in KDE than in anything else. KDE was always too "heavy" for me. It looked good, but with a lot of overhead. I settled on Gnome2 a long time a...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

Or even Lubuntu...DAMIEN Unfortunately, Lubuntu will lose its current useful niche in the lightweight market.... Lubuntu 20.04 will have LXQt instead of the LXDE that Lubuntu 18.04 still has. Which means: not ultra lightweight anymore. :( Pardon my ignorance, but why is going to LXQT an issue? Is i...

True. She lost her Apple AirPods that she bought, and feels the pain. Daddy did not offer to get her another set. We also made her purchase the tires for her car out of her paycheck to teach her how much life costs. She did not like the lesson.

Re: Sell me on Mint! (Solved)

Mint Linux works. Out of the box it works 98% of the time unless you have an odd wifi card. I tried Pop OS on my other HP, and it would not install, Mint, like a champ.

Re: System 76 laptops and Mint?

Yeah, I decided against getting one. I like Mint too much, I'll just another HP laptop and wipe Windows and install Mint. I'll spend the money I was going to spend on System 76 and get an HP Omen (used) gaming laptop for my laptop gaming needs. Then I will make a donation to Mint.
