Re: Printer recommendation for LMDE

I will be the contrarian- I have never had an issue with HP printers. They work. There are other issues, but for my use case, HP has been rock solid on Linux. I have two and inkjet and a laserjet.

Ok, Ok, I made a mistake, but it is still uber-cool. Love this thing.

Re: Keyboards and rodents

On laptops, I have found the System 76 keyboards to be pretty darn good overall. Very usable. Better than most of the HP keyboards I have used in the past.

Re: How long have you been using Linux ?

I just tried GhostBSD with the Mate desktop. Not bad, not bad at all, but I have neither the time nor these days the inclination to dig in and fix/learn/work on stuff that I just want to work out of the box. I can if need be, but, at this time in my life, I just want things to work. OH NO! I am beco...

Task Manager now Mission Center

I make no secret that I love the Microsoft task manager which displays lots of information for me, well I have discovered Mission Control which is as close as I am likely to get on Linux. https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/06/mission-center-system-monitor-new-features I installed it from the Cosmic Ap...

Re: How long have you been using Linux ?

Lots of long term users here. How many of us have distro hopped like mad though? I didn't. I did look at Ubuntu briefly and didn't like it. I tried Mint and fell in love. I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" and since it "aint broke", why would I want to &qu...

Re: Keyboards and rodents

Logitech discontinued the G513-Carbon, which is such a shame, there is no direct replacement that I can find.

My Mint Journey

My life and Mint (Linux). I came to use Mint after returning to Linux somewhere around 2014/2015 having started with Ubuntu, I want to say 16.04(?) I was dis-satisfied with it, and later discovered something called Mint Linux. I loaded 17.2 (?) I think it was, and this Mint thing just worked. Now at...

Keyboards and rodents

I will admit I am a keyboard and rodent snob. I have what I like, and everything else feels "off " to me. How do you all think about this? I like mechanical clicky clacky keyboards, my current one is a now discontinued Logitech G513 Carbon, and a System 76 Launch Heavy (I should have gotte...

As my youngest says: "You Go Girl!" Amazing, all the hard work you have put in on your computer. I wish I had even a 1/10th of your talent.

BTW: I really like your USB solution.

Re: What do you love about linux that windows or mac cannot do?

Linux' keeps it's hands off your wallet And even more importantly, off your data. I will second this. Plus no ads on the taskbar, and no installing stealth software on my system. A certain large corporation stealth installed CoPilot on my computer without my knowledge. I had to hack registry and ev...

Re: Canonical (Ubuntu)

The other thing I am seeing a lot of comment on is moving from Ubuntu to Debian as a base. I think that this would be very complicated, and possibly cause our devs an insane amount of work doing essentially what Canonical does by keeping up with modern (i.e. the latest) kernels so that new hardware ...

Re: Is hiding unverified flatpaks worth it?

Hi, Flathub has decided to use verified / unverified labels. Why to do something else? Just show the labels on software manager. Regards, MN I agree with this, and my take is instead of hiding them for a reason I will elaborate on below, just mark them in red or orange in a visible way that these a...

Re: When did you start to realize Linux will never become the future of desktop computing?

I agree I think Microsofts actions and mis-steps are a valid area of discussion. Also various Linux areas of mis-steps and lost opportunities. Brodie Robertson posted this video regarding the CUPS/Open Office printing bug which actually turns out to be a Linux bug in the FIND command: https://www.yo...

Re: Chrome Canary, beta, and dev versions will begin warning Manifest V2 Extensions deprecation in June 2024

I have noticed that Chrome is extraordinarily slow on my Windows computer loading these days, and it has just started happening. Fifrefox is unaffected by whatever it is on Chrome that is slowing things down. On windows it is taking 60-90 seconds just to load a page. Now I have ad block running on i...

Re: Distros built on 24.04 issues

I haven't heard anything. Generally positive reviews of 24.04. Ubuntu seems to be locking things down a bit more to make it harder to remove their bits such as snap and GTK4 Adwaita etc. I wonder if this is making life harder for those distros built on top of Ubuntu If that were the case, we sure w...
