Re: Purchasing A Laptop Computer with Linux OS Installed
I have, or have had (one got given away) SIX System 76 Linux devices, five laptops and one desktop. Unless I can build it myself, I will continue to use System 76 equipment. Well one is an HP Dev One, but it might as well be a System 76. https://system76.com/laptops I have an earlier one of these: h...

HA! I have not seen or used a PCMCIA card in so long I cannot recall. I remember when laptops can with the slot for those things.
Now I never used 8" floppies, but I certainly used many a 5.25" floppy disk in my day. I also remember using cassettes (tapes) for storage.

AMazing how many users think their experience is universal. Mint is no better with printers than other Linux distros. If that were true this section would be empty, wouldn't it? https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=51 I have never had any Mint installation NOT find and install my printer, a...

I went with my computer buddy, when he bought several tubes (yes tubes) of memory chips and added them to an AST ram card to get his computer memory up to 1 megabyte so he could take everything above 640k and run it a a ram cache.

I remember there was a script called "Washing machine" and you put it into the autoexec.bat file, and when you booted it delivered a message that water was detected on the hard drive, and a spin cycle was starting, and you got a spin sound then the message drive was dry, please go ahead an...

Thanks, they are plugged into the video card. And thanks for the tip on that really buried setting, I missed it completely since I did not think that the i/o would be where they hid video cards. Much appreciated.

How do I check to see if I am using the graphics card?[SOLVED]
I have a System 76 Thelio with an AMD 6600XT card. How do I make sure that the software is using the graphics card instead of the onboard graphics by default? I have checked the bios, no setting, in software no setting, and if I right click on a program it asks if I want to use dedicated graphics. S...

Well my buddy girl is home, the vet called and she was ready for pickup. They put her cremains in a very nice ash wood box, with two plaster of paris paw prints as well as a packet of Forget Me Not seeds. Darn I miss that dog!

The joy of upgrading your 9 pin dot matrix printer to a 24 pin, and thinking: WOW! This is amazing print quality! Or using the (extremely) loud daisy wheel printer at the office to print out stuff for personal use? Installing a NEC V20 chip in place of the 8088 since it made the system "faster?...

I am not sure, since I use Steam to game, iTunes for music, along with Photoshop and TurboTax. So I suspect I will have to remain on the net, but I might just never use a browser or email on the Windows 10 system.

Windows 8, like Windows ME was an abomination!
Plus this whole Microsoft Co-Pilot thing has me worried, just another way to suck away your data so you can be tracked and monetized. Plus having to buy a new keyboard for the Co-Pilot key.

I remember buying single sided 5.25 disks then cutting the notch out on the other side so I could flip it over and use the other side. Doubled sided disks at a discount! Oh no! I remember doing that as well. Those things got pricy back in the day. I also remember going from 360k to 1.2mb 5.25' flop...

Also in "icon view" you can not select more than one folder or document to copy, you have to change it to list view before you can select all to copy. How tedious.
