Re: New Desktop Computer - Part 12 - Here We Go Again Continued

Such a pity they seem a really good option for big and fast storage. I wonder if there is some sort of tray that can be plugged into a U.2 slot?

I like #1 and #3, voted for 3, but I like logos on the back of shirts rather than the front.

Re: Asus Motherboard - Its dying - Brand new.

I tend to get the best quality motherboard I can, and then go with a more inexpensive processor, for example my X370 ASUS board with the Ryzen 1700 which was perfect for me. I wish Gigabyte had something like the Pro Art motherboard that ASUS offers, since I like that board, no RGB, and not a "...

Re: Mint 22 BETA

I am very excited for this release, not the least the HWE kernel stack. That, for me, and my use case, is a big deal. I have noticed that since I installed 6.8 or 6.9.3 on my laptops the battery life is better. Plus I am liking what I am seeing in Cinnamon 6.2. Take all the time you need to stomp on...

I hope so, I really hope so, but I suspect that either the majority or a large number will just go along with it.

Interesting file system graphic

I found this interesting: I did not know that there were that many differences between the various file systems.

A question on your hotswappable bays, can you use the Enterprise grade NVME drives on those? Example is this drive: https://www.newegg.com/western-digital- ... 6820250142

Re: Asus Motherboard - Its dying - Brand new.

That makes my life awkward since my Windows computer has been randomly rebooting, BSODing, random crashes, etc. But it is a 2016 Ryzen 1700 system, so it is either the Power supply, CPU thermals, RAM, motherboard, or something else. The logs do not seem to show much of anything. I was going to get a...

Re: Asus Motherboard - Its dying - Brand new.

JayzTwoCents has really been bashing ASUS quality control lately in his videos. I am disappointed they used to be my go to motherboard after the goat roping I had with Gigabyte motherboards. But the Thelio has a gigabyte board and it seems pretty good. ASUS QC is apparently non existant lately.

Re: Suggesting systems to non-Linux users

My brother in law and niece have Dell Latitudes and they are constantly complaining about lack of ports, the same thing some people complain about Mac laptops not having enough ports. The Lenovos, and the System 76 laptops do not lack for ports.

Norton was a virus effectively, I think that FF and others need to be made to enforce good programming standards and put all their files in one place, not willy nilly across the whole filesystem.

Re: WTH is wrong with Linux companies

While I can understand and appreciate their need for metrics, after spending years literally stomping on another operating systems built in spyware, I too, am a bit leery about accepting telemetry. I think they will do it and tell their users to shut up and accept it, and after a while they will shu...

Ok, so I was wrong there are more "X'es" out there than I anticipated. I still think we might have some trouble with "Y" and "Z" but I am sure I will get proven wrong..... :D :D

Re: Mint 22 BETA

I am so glad Clem just announced the delay of Mint 22 for bug stomping. That is what makes Mint so special, is the devs stomp out as many bugs as possible before release, unlike some other OSes I could name.

Re: Suggesting systems to non-Linux users

I think that the Lenovos are mostly the best Linux choice right now for used laptops especially the T480/490 range. But I can see others, now for desktops, I really like the Intel NUCs unless they want to game, which then becomes an issue. But for just simple stuff around the house, the NUCS are per...

Thanks, can I just click and install, or do I have to do something special to get them installed?

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out. It claimed it was unsecure but it installed just fine.

Suggesting systems to non-Linux users

If you were to give advice to people/friends/co-workers/perfect strangers as to what systems to get to run Linux as something they are doing for the first time with a limited budget (no $10,000 systems), for a desktop or a laptop or both. What would you suggest? Me, I would suggest the following sys...
