Re: HDCP/DRM in the kernel.

Quick update I found a How To Geek article explaining how HDCP is kinda broken and how to make it work with older TVs.

Re: HDCP/DRM in the kernel.

So what are your thoughts on DRM/HDCP in the Linux kernel? I didn't watch the video, but I know this being supported is nothing new. Speaking for myself, I'm not entirely bothered by it, and can appreciate it as an option. EDIT: (from 2017) Why Linux HDCP isn't the end of the world Well I understan...

Re: Does Linux MInt support LVFS?

I used the fwupdmgr -h command and this is what it shows: As I had mentioned, this is the help documentation for the command, where it states, "This tool allows an administrator to query and control the fwupd daemon, allowing them to perform actions such as installing or downgrading firmware." So I...

Re: EA permanently banning Linux gamers on Battlefield V

So this is the de-clickbaited title? Makes me wonder what it was before. EA isn't banning because of Linux but because of Wine. Also what's the news, games with anti-cheat protection typically ban you for something like that. If you know how cheat software interacts with games you understand why. W...

Re: Does Linux MInt support LVFS?

Sorry for the late reply I used the fwupdmgr -h command and this is what it shows: Usage: fwupdmgr [OPTION…] build-firmware FILE-IN FILE-OUT [SCRIPT] [OUTPUT] Build firmware using a sandbox clear-history Erase all firmware update history clear-offline Clears any updates scheduled to be updated offli...

EA permanently banning Linux gamers on Battlefield V

I thought this might concern some of you who use WINE to play Windows games particularly Battlefield 5.

My Lenovo Thinkpad T580 doesn't shutdown/reboot properly sometimes.

Sometimes my laptop a Lenovo Thinkpad T580 doesn't shutdown or reboot properly and by that I mean it just hangs there and I'm forced to do a force shutdown. And I'm worried that one of these days that this will happen with a kernel update which of course requires a reboot. Please fix this in a futur...

Re: After updating last night LM wanted a admin permission to run on my non-admin account.

You see why I say that's different, right? Conversely, I'll agree it's unexpected that the non-sudo user is even offered the option. OTOH, not a security risk if you're administering the system correctly, i.e., the non-sudo user doesn't know the admin password. Well I have a non-admin account for s...

Re: After updating last night LM wanted a admin permission to run on my non-admin account.

... so non-admin users obviously have certain admin permissions such as updates. Not if they have to enter the admin password. In my case at least, the non-sudo user couldn't authorize the update with its own password. Rather, my admin password was required. Was your experience different? No I had ...

Re: After updating last night LM wanted a admin permission to run on my non-admin account.

Well that's strange because I'm able to install updates just fine on my standard/non-admin accounts on both of my computers, although I cant install any software or run any sudo commands from my standard/non-admin accounts. Strange, indeed. I just checked one my test boxes, which is the only place ...

Last night I did an update LM from my non-admin account and after rebooting and logging back into my non-admin account it said something about my admin account needed permission to run something. Just a quick search on a not so well known search engine seems to suggest they are the two different manufacturers of Yoga batteries.
LG (LGC) and Simplo (SMP)
So I have two batteries in my laptop then? :?:

Battery questions about Lenovo Thinkpad T580

I just got a new Lenovo Thinkpad T580 and I notice under the Cinnamon desktop it shows two batteries SMP and LGC also my mouse's battery but that's just normal. So I wondering what's this SMP battery? Because I know the LGC battery is powering my laptop but I can't figure out what the SMP battery is...
