Re: Issues with (re-) log in, after "suspend"

Hi mottechy Here's the detail of my solution. Worth a try? First, go into Menu - Preferences - Power Management, and set "When lid is Closed" to "Do nothing". Second, create a script file. Change the filename and location to suit you. $ nano ~/mylock Copy & paste the following code into the file: #!...

Re: Cinnamon 3.6.6 Crashes

Agreed, cessanfrancisco. I've spent a long time setting up Mint the way I want it, and would prefer not to have to do it all again on a fresh install :)

Re: Issues with (re-) log in, after "suspend"

I had this problem on 18.2, after searching and asking, no real solution was found. I produced a workaround in the end, it requires a bit of command line fiddling to set up, and means you have to click an icon to suspend instead of just shutting the lid. Suits me fine now i have got used to it, and ...

If any other info would help with debugging...

Re: Cinnamon 18.2 x64 freezes

What does the hard drive LED show whilst it is frozen? Is the hard drive thrashing away?

If so, this might help.

Re: Problem with resume from suspend, 18.2 Cinnamon

Resurrecting an old thread here, but I'm still having problems with suspend and resume. I've tried a variety of kernels and am now on the most recent one offered in the update manager. All give me problems when resuming from suspend, say three times out of five I have to CTRL-ALT-Backspace and log i...

Re: Problem with resume from suspend, 18.2 Cinnamon

Hi kyphi

Thanks for the suggestion, sorry I seemed to ignore it, as the forum didn't give me a notification.

I had actually rolled back from 4.10.something to 4.8.something to see if it helped. I will try going forward again to the most recent and see what happens.

Problem with resume from suspend, 18.2 Cinnamon

Hi, Lately I have been having trouble with resuming after suspend (when I lift the laptop lid). instead of the lock screen, I can see the desktop as I left it. I can use the touchpad to move the mouse around, but can't click on anything or type anything. I can only Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to return to th...

Re: evolution-indicator not appearing

I found a solution that seems to work for me on Mint 18.1 Cinnamon, I can't see why it wouldn't also work on MATE. install this: sudo apt-get install mail-notification-evolution Go into evolution, Edit menu -> Plugins, and make sure "Jean-Yves Lefort Mail Notification" is ticked Close the dialog box...

[SOLVED]Re: Suspend not working on Cinnamon

I solved the problem. In case anyone else is interested, it involved changing some parameters using the "gsettings" command, as detailed in this thread:

Re: Suspend not working on Cinnamon

Update, I did some digging and tried a few things Updated to the latest 4.8 kernel (I was on 4.4.66) Followed the suggestions in the first reply to this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/395428/laptop-does-not-suspend-when-lid-is-closed Changed from nouveau driver to nvidia binary driver ...none of th...

[SOLVED] Suspend not working on Cinnamon

Hello I've been using Mate happily for a while and recently switched to Cinnamon desktop (same installation, nothing else changed). In cinnamon, the laptop does not Suspend when the lid is closed, whereas it did so in Mate. I have checked the settings in Preferences/Power, this is set to "suspend" o...

MTP access to Sony Xperia android phone

Hello I'm having trouble connecting my phone (Xperia Z3 Compact) to the computer for data transfer. I also have a Nexus 7, which works fine, so I'm trying to work out the difference. Both are on Android 6 Marshmallow, and new in this version, you have to select MTP transfer every time it is plugged ...

Re: What is using the network connection?

Thanks for the quick reply Xenopeek.

The 2KB/s transfer doesn't seem to be happening at the moment, but I've downloaded and run nethogs and it looks like it will be able to reveal the culprit next time it happens.

Much appreciated,

Andy.

What is using the network connection?

Hello all, I am using Mint 17.2 (Mate) on a Dell latitude laptop. With no programs running on the desktop, system monitor shows approx 2KB/s and 500B/s download and upload respectively, more-or-less continuously. Neither system monitor nor "top" it seems will show me which programs are using the net...

Re: mate-settings-d using all my memory?

Thank you Flemur and ibbill for the helpful suggestions. As of just now (fresh reboot), /run/user/1000/dconf/user is owned by andy:andy, and my .xsession-errors is only 16k and has nothing obvious in it. The "fix" in Flemur's links seems to me does not stop the problem happening, rather it is a meth...

mate-settings-d using all my memory?

Hello, I've been having some issues with my laptop freezing up due to intense disk activity. It often happens when I'm using Firefox, but then I'm nearly always using firefox. Today it happened when I was using Chrome. I managed to get a terminal open to run "top" (took about a minute to open, and 3...
