Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

Still, when I try to change the settings on Java heap space to 1GB in Linux Mint 19.1, I found that those changes only stay temporary. When I reboot Linux though, the memory is set back to default, which is 488MB. What I want to accomplish is this: I need to know how much memory is needed for JOdin3...

Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

... now I'm trying my luck on Linux Mint, as Android is also some sort of Linux ... Just a side note, Androis uses a Gentoo based kernel with their own patches, and with a very proprietary wrapper. Mint/Ubuntu etc are GNU/Linux. So it's the Linux kernel with an open source wrapper. Android isn't re...

Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

Using the following command 'java -XX:+PrintFlagsFinal -version | grep -iE 'HeapSize|PermSize|ThreadSize'' shows: $ java -XX:+PrintFlagsFinal -version | grep -iE 'HeapSize|PermSize|ThreadSize' size_t ErgoHeapSizeLimit = 0 {product} {default} size_t HeapSizePerGCThread = 43620760 {product} {default} ...

Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

Hi iwannaknowmint, I have never done what you are trying to do and I do not own a Samsung smartphone or tablet although I would love one of each. You can check the websites for Heimdall and Casual (github) to see if they have any dependencies that you have not installed. If this process requires us...

Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

If it's asking for sudo, then the program requires root privileges. Here's the command to run to add the environment variable to root's .bashrc: echo '_JAVA_OPTIONS="-Xmx1g"' | sudo tee -a /root/.bashrc If this doesn't work, then hopefully someone farther up the food chain will chime in. Without te...

Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

You might need to dig deeper into how JOdin3 actually starts. Since it's ignoring your terminal environment, it must be starting its own. Maybe it would work to add the _JAVA_OPTIONS="-Xmx1g" to root's .bashrc; just a guess. I didn't launch it by itself, I used terminal to launch it with the sudo c...

Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

I launge JOdin3 in Terminal, by using the 'sudo' command and next dragging the executable into the same terminal. After passing the password, JOdin3 launches and on the terminal a log on the background shows the current status of the program. Perhaps I should add here that I fired Terminal in the e...

Re: Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

I entered 'export _JAVA_OPTIONS="-Xmx1g"' and verified the changes being set with 'java -XshowSettings:vm', unfortunately those are only for the VM and also only temporary. When JOdin3 launched and I clicked the 'start' button after the device connected through USB, the PIT and the stock ROM being s...

Who knows how to edit 'Java heap space' on Linux Mint?

Currently I'm in the process of reprogramming my Android tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab3, 7.0, 8GB, WiFi. Android version is KitKat 4.4.2 With Odin3 on Windows that is a disaster due to various driver issues. And I'm sure it's not an hardware issue, because with the same hardware Heimdall successful...

Hi there, I am a newbie to Linux, and I understand your difficulties in helping newbies, so thank you in advance for your help and patience :) I just installed Linux Mint Rosa 17.3 on Oracle VM VirtualBox (4/30/2016), and the following message shows up in a black box right after booting: " Running ...

How to install Mint on PIII notebook without cd or usb?

I have this old HP Omnibook Xe3i notebook, 768MB of memory, which doesn't support boot from USB nor has a working CD/DVD drive on it. However, I would like to install Mint x86 on it. How is that done without a working CD/DVD drive on it? I tried UNetbootin allready. But that didn't work, copying Min...

Re: mint 17.2 x64, modem manager 1374, could not acquire org

Yes it does, even though in the bios I had disabled unused hardware like modem, etc. so that disabled hardware should not be visible to the OS. Still it looks like the notebook has shutdown properly, but actually it isn't ...... it stuck during shutdown process and no warnings shown. As an result, f...

mint 17.2 x64, modem manager 1374, could not acquire org.

Hi, today I tried to install Mint 17.3 64-bit on a Dell Latitude D620 notebook, but that ended in several errors. I verified those in the Mint forum, these errors happen to be known. So, I tried the previous version instead, Mint 17.2 64-bit Rafaela. Then after installation, which overall went well....
