Re: Samba sharing on ext4 partition

You don't have to do anything with it. It's just a verification that you created a share at /media/wendy/Data. I see. Thank you :) So, to confirm, is the way I ended up sharing the Data partition (Nemo, left pane - Devices - Data - right-click - Properties - Share. Share tab, I turned on "Share thi...

Re: Samba sharing on ext4 partition

"The permissions for /media/wendy prevent other users from accessing this share" That error ( it's really a warning not an error ) message is "hard coded" into the application. It's based on the path to the shared resource. It's not smart enough to look at the contents of /etc/samba/smb.conf for th...

Re: Samba sharing on ext4 partition

Just a thought, could this be due to the partition not auto-mounting on boot? Actually, how can I auto-mount the partition? Indeed it will. [1] Run the following command to find the UUID number for your partition: sudo blkid -c /dev/null [2] Unmount the partition if you currently have it mounted: s...

Re: Samba sharing on ext4 partition

Edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and right under the workgroup = WORKGROUP line add this one: force user = wendy THen restart smbd: sudo service smbd restart The system applies special permissions to /media/wendy such that it only allows wendy to get to the Data folder. "force user" makes the client user a...

Re: Swap Partition - How to delete

I commented out fstab, as follows: # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices # that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5). # # <file syste...

Re: Swap Partition - How to delete

Thank you for the reply. I have found the etc folder, but cannot see fstab inside it. Also, my system is EFI, does that make any difference when I delete the swap partition? Thanks again.

UPDATE: Found the fstab file :)

[SOLVED] Uninstall software - Best Practice

I would like to completely uninstall Firefox and Thunderbird Mail from my new install of LM 19.1. And would appreciate some advice on whether it's best practice to uninstall via terminal, or Software Manager. If it's via terminal what commands would I use?

Thank you in advance.

[SOLVED] Unable to remove Terminal from Favourites

I have a new install of LM 19.1. All is well, apart from I am unable to remove Terminal from Favourites. When I right-click on the Terminal app in the menu, I only have the option to add to favourites. And if I do so, a duplicate Terminal icon appears in Favourites. I am able to then remove this dup...
