[SOLVED] Veracrypt does not run.
Hi. I am using Mint 20.2, Cinnamon. I initially installed Veracrypt from their website using https://launchpad.net/veracrypt/trunk/1.25.9/+download/veracrypt-1.25.9-Debian-11-amd64.deb. It appeared in the application launcher but clicking on it did nothing. I uninstalled it and followed the instruct...

Re: Are Java 11 and OpenJDK 11.0.15 the same?
Thanks. I did go back to the link you gave and used the multiple lines to delete Java. It told me that it had deleted a number of items. Update manager has told me that my system is up to date so I'm waiting for the next set of updates to see if it has worked. I still don't know how I got Java onto ...

Re: Are Java 11 and OpenJDK 11.0.15 the same?
I tried removing /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local using: sudo rm -r /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local When I checked the directory had gone. Then I did another update using Update Manager and I got the same error message. I went back to the start and used: sudo apt update The result was...

Thanks Cosmo.
Resetting Cinnamon worked and I have my desktop back.
I'd never heard of Melange before.

[SOLVED] Lost Task bar and Menu button dead.
Hi. I am using Mint 20.3. I noticed that the Task bar had disapeared from the bottom of the screen. This happens regularly when I get a message saying that Cinnamon is restarting but then I noticed that pressing the "Windows" key didn't bring up the menu. Restarting doesn't help. The only ...

Re: Are Java 11 and OpenJDK 11.0.15 the same?
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the PC I was using has devoloped a fault. I've lost the bottom task bar and the "Windows" button doesn't bring up Nemo, so I can't do what you suggested. However, I saved the details from an update and from the Veracrypt installation: Update details: /...

[SOLVED] Are Java 11 and OpenJDK 11.0.15 the same?
Hi. Every time I run Update Manager I get messages saying that updates fail because I don't have Java 11 installed. When I tried to install it I was asked for my company name. I am retired so I don't have one. I have OpenJDK 11.0.15 installed. Is this the equivalent of Java 11 and can Mint 20 be tol...

Re: Cannot find sha256sum.txt etc
I have the same problem. I have followed the Verify Your ISO image in page: https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/verify.html. I created a directory Mint_20.3 and saved all the downloaded files in it. I have downloaded the ISO three times without getting the expected result: ...

Re: Lost Windows 10 in Grub menu after upgrade from 18 to 20
Thanks for your replies. I am using a 7 year old Lenovo G50 laptop. When I tried to install Mint 20 from the USB stick it wasn't recognized. I found that for it to be seen I had to change my BIOS settings to use Legacy then set it to the first in the Boot list. Does this mean that I have to copy the...

Lost Windows 10 in Grub menu after upgrade from 18 to 20
Hi. I was using a dual boot system with Windows 10 and Mint 18.3 I asked a question on the Lazarus forum, saying that I was using Mint 18.3, and was told it was out of date and I should upgrade to 20. Having saved my Home directory I upgrade using a USB stick. When asked if I wanted to replace 18 I ...

Can't run Aptana 3 in Mint 20
Hi, I'm using Mint 20.1 Cinnamon on an AMD 64 tower. I've followed the instructions for installing Aptana Studio from https://tutorialforlinux.com/2018/07/03/how-to-install-aptana-studio-3-on-linux-mint-19/ I've unzipped aptana.studio-linux.gtk.x86_64.zip into /home/OPT/Aptana_3 and set AptanaStudio...

Hi. I've just installed Mint 20 Cinnamon on a X86-64 pc. I copied fpcupdeluxe from my previous Mint 19.1 installation and assumed it would work without any changes, but it doesn't. I get the following messages: fpcupdeluxe: Start of compile error summary. fpcupdeluxe: ERROR: Missing library: fpcupde...

Hi. I have been using a Dell 1320CN laser printer on a network for a long time with previous versions of Mint but now that I have installed Mint 20 Cinnamon I can't get the printer working. I have copied the files that I used previously into /usr/lib/cups/ and checked that they are all owned by root...

[SOLVED] Moving /home directory
Thanks for all the replies. I have solved the problem by disconnecting the hard drive, connecting the SSD in the socket that the hard drive was using and started the computer, which opened in Mint 20, with the SSD as sda. I shut down and reconnected the hard drive which then became sdb and followed ...

Re: Moving /home directory
Hi. Thanks for all your suggestions. When I ran mount I had reverted to the original fstab, so that I could continue using the computer from the SSD. This is the output from the system when I use fstab with the 470GB disk included as /home: $ mount sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,re...
