Re: What you'll do when Firefox drops support for XUL addons?

The day has arrived..... All legacy addons are dead... And the new UI in my opinion is horrendous and no, you can't fix it with CTR.... I'm currently on waterfox. I hope it will survive long term.... Only wrinkle right now, is that it's 64bit only, i'll need to find something else for my old 32bit l...

Re: What you'll do when Firefox drops support for XUL addons?

Please say Waterfox supports profiles and add-ons like Morning Coffee... I'll even put a fresh install of Mint 18.2 KDE on my laptop to accommodate it. right now, it seams to be almost exactly like Firefox. For example pocket is not included.... XD I superficially tested your addon, it seams to wor...

Re: What you'll do when Firefox drops support for XUL addons?

I might have to go the ESR route for now as I still have a lot open on this one I've yet to go through and am more certain that its replacement fits my needs. Had a few crashes with PaleMoon so far (loads up then dies as soon as you click something) but seems to be OK apart from that - and it doesn...

I think default tor works fine, but privoxy complains about the config. i tried something like this and it didn't like it. forward-socks4 / 127.0.0.1:9050 . forwardsocks4a / 127.0.0.1:9050 . yea, i know a...

Re: restart X with magic Sysrq key

There's nothing more convenient then ssh?

You can't make a custom magic key or something?
Some kind of script/config....
It would have been convenient if "ctrl+alt+backspace"
worked even when X get's stuck....

Re: What you'll do when Firefox drops support for XUL addons?

You need serious amount of resources to maintain a layout engine.
Apple, google, m$ and Mozilla are all big/biggish corps.

In case you were wondering about KHTML.

Re: restart X with magic Sysrq key

-_-
That's the whole point of the magic keys.

The kernel bypasses X and can get directly magic keys combinations from the keyboard, even if X is totally dead with black screen and unresponsive keyboard, and if it's not a kernel panic....

Re: What you'll do when Firefox drops support for XUL addons?

web extensions and addons are not equivalent.
addons go deep in gecko and do stuff.
stuff that blink/webkit doesn't allow.

What you'll do when Firefox drops support for XUL addons?

In case you didn't know already. Firefox will drop support for traditional addons this November, and replace them with web extensions (Chrome extensions). I really mean addons(adblock, flashblock...), not plugins (flash, java....). Web extensions are less powerful then traditional Firefox addons, an...

restart X with magic Sysrq key

A magic SysRq key, is a key combination that talks directly to the kernel. So if X is dead (the screen and keyboard are dead) but the kernel is still running, you can send some commands (terminate all processes, unmount, reboot etc...) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key I don't see how i ...

Re: CUPS update 2.1.3-4ubuntu0-2 produces error [SOLVED]

Exactly what happened, was that the maintainers uploaded the wrong files in the repos, then they just removed them. (they should instaid have uploaded the good packages with higher version numbers in my opinion) So, as long as you remove all the alien packages, your system should get fixed. Added co...

apt still complains about broken packages?
what's the error?

A correction from before, installing these, should get the system like it was:

Code: Select all

Re: CUPS update 2.1.3-4ubuntu0-2 produces error [SOLVED]

It seams they pushed wrong packages in the repos, then they removed them and we got this mess. To actually solve the issue, you need to go in synaptic and downgrade packages untill the system is happy again. Be careful not to remove half your system. The easiest solution would be to simply reinstall...

Re: CUPS update 2.1.3-4ubuntu0-2 produces error [SOLVED]

The repos are missing packages, the maintainers rainbows up. I'm surprised it lasts for so long. Like a previous guy said, you need to install the missing packages manually. go to https://ubuntu.pkgs.org and download the following files: cups-daemon_2.1.3-4ubuntu0.2_amd64.deb cups-core-drivers_2.1.3...
