Re: Timeshift with Btrfs: "Bootloader Options (Advanced)" not available on restore?
Taking a look at the source, it appears the core restore functions are in src/Core/Main.vala . There we find the function which restores the snapshot in btrfs_mode: public bool restore_execute_btrfs(){ log_debug("Main: restore_execute_btrfs()"); bool ok = create_pre_restore_snapshot_btrfs(...

Re: Timeshift with Btrfs: "Bootloader Options (Advanced)" not available on restore?
Yes, Btrfs can take an "instantaneous" snapshot of the system partition without the need to physically copy the files. But is this data even part of the system partition? Particularly GRUB, it is outside / regardless of whether the system partition is ext4 of btrfs, isn't? But it is certai...

Re: Timeshift with Btrfs: "Bootloader Options (Advanced)" not available on restore?
In my actual system it is Btrfs, and indeed it only makes sense to use the Btrfs option in Timeshift if that's the case.
For a little more context, I did describe my partitioning scheme in general lines in the OP.

Re: Timeshift with Btrfs: "Bootloader Options (Advanced)" not available on restore?
For the record, my memory did not fail me this time. I've installed a Mint 21.1 on a VM with all defaults (meaning an ext4 root partition), created a Timeshift snapshot, and tried to restore it, getting the following options: Screenshot from 2023-03-14 12-05-25.png (The dialog box on the right is wh...

Re: Timeshift with Btrfs: "Bootloader Options (Advanced)" not available on restore?
I don't remember that being the case. You might be right, but I say I have never seen that. My memory has been known to fail me, but I'm pretty confident I used to get this option when restoring with my previous installation, for which I had ext4 as file system for the root partition and thus used ...

Re: Redshift working but not picking the settings in the conf file
I had some trouble with that recently too. I'm not sure it's the same case, but my problem was that I use stow to setup my dotfiles and thus redshift.conf is a symlink, which apparmor seems to block. The solution in my case was to add the apparmor authorization to the target of the symlink by adding...

Timeshift with Btrfs: "Bootloader Options (Advanced)" not available on restore?
Hi All, When upgrading to Mint 21, I've decided to make a fresh install and, in the process, have chosen to experiment with Btrfs, in part for faster snapshots with Timeshift. However, I've noticed a difference between Timeshift's Rsync and Btrfs "modes". When restoring a Timeshift snapsho...

Re: [Solved] Who is setting the "Alt+'" keyboard shortcut and how can I get it back?
Hi all41, indeed the OP says I searched in dconf Editor a similar
gsettings
path. With this one, I was able to remove the binding and regain the key for other uses. What more you'd you like me to include? I'll gladly do it, but there's not much more to it.- Tue Feb 07, 2023 9:42 pm

Re: Who is setting the "Alt+'" keyboard shortcut and how can I get it back?
Answering myself, the path is
/org/cinnamon/desktop/keybindings/wm/switch-group
. Why it shows in Keyboard, Shortcuts, General, "Cycle through open windows of the same application" as "unassigned", I have no idea though.- Mon Feb 06, 2023 6:59 pm

Re: Who is setting the "Alt+'" keyboard shortcut and how can I get it back?
Hi AZgl1800, thanks for the suggestion, but I want to unbind the key which is taken at the wm level, so that it is available to other programs (in my case, I want it available for Emacs). I don't see how overriding the wm binding with Autokey would allow me to do that, or am I missing something of w...

Hi JosephM, I had to ask, but I feared as much. Thank you for confirming it. I guess I'll file a feature request then.

Re: Run dialog (aka Alt-F2) background transparency
Hi shedyed, I thank you for the suggestion. But I really prefer to use the run dialog, it is faster and simpler for the purpose. Of course I know I could use the terminal, but I'm trying to configure the run dialog, not replace it for something else.

[Solved] Who is setting the "Alt+'" keyboard shortcut and how can I get it back?
Hi All, I'm interested in reclaiming the Alt+' (Alt + single quote) keyboard shortcut for my own purposes, and can't seem to be able to do so. The environment here is Mint 21.1, Cinnamon, and a "pt_br" keyboard layout (which I mention, since I think the issue may be related to it). Current...

[Solved] Run dialog (aka Alt-F2) background transparency
Hi All, I'm fond of the run dialog (Alt+F2) functionality, and use it frequently. However, since some time (I think since the Mint 20 cycle, but don't really remember), I've been finding the background which covers the whole desktop to be too dark. Indeed, one of my common use cases is to launch TeX...

Re: [Solved] Full-disk encryption with more control
rene, spamhog, t42, thank you for your comments and suggestions. spamhog, indeed, the interesting question is how to get things working with manual partitioning. And the tutorials suggested by linux-rox and zcot show not only that it is possible, but also how to do it. They are a lot to sink in, sin...

Re: Full-disk encryption with more control
spamhog, thank you very much for your suggestions. Regarding the "economics" of having more control vs letting the Mint installer handle if for me and syncing the files later, that's currently what I'm trying to figure out, and the reason for this question. I'd like to try, and see what my...

I might well be asking a duplicate here, since a search for the obvious key terms in the forum returns numerous hits. Re: Missing Cantata Icon in XApp Status Applet (Cinnamon)
There has been a recent update to XApp, a couple of days ago perhaps, which seems to have solved this. I don't know if this question has anything to do with it, or if it was luck. Still, I'm marking this as solved for the record. And, as I know the dev team is always around here, I'd also like to le...
