Re: So long M$ Windows 10, hello Linux Mint
Welcome Scott. Try to read as much as possible about Mint and how things work, either here in the forums, or the user guide which can be found here: https://linuxmint.com/documentation.php , or in the chatroom: http://widget00.mibbit.com/?settings=afafcb2fef3d61ee26d44fe55394b54b&server=irc.spot...

Re: Disc burning
Gnome distro still doesn't cover it. Which desktop do you use: Mate or Cinnamon? They are both based on Gnome, be it version 2 or 3.LamphunLumyai wrote:

Re: Disc burning
Again, you have to write us which edition you are using. Disc burning programs are, for example, k3b for KDE, brasero for the gnome based versions and xfburn for the xfce desktop. Stick with the one belonging to your desktop or you will have to install many dependencies which could make your system ...

Re: Moving an application title
You did not write which DE you use: Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE or KDE. I use KDE and then it quite simple, maybe it's the same for the others as well but I don't know that: right-click on the button in the bottom-left corner of the screen, the one which opens the starting menu. chose "edit applicatio...

Re: Have decided on Mint, version question
What Cosmo wrote here is so true, but there is something more: When LinuxMint 18, the final version, appears don't immediately jump into it. Even the final versions will have bugs which will be straightened out in the first 1-2 weeks. Then, when you see many people here writing about how great it is...

Re: IMAP and Remote Servers
As Cosmo wrote already, when you use IMAP your Thunderbird is nothing more than a tool to look at the mail which is on the server . There is only one copy of the mail and it is located on the server. You don't have a copy of it. Deleting the messages here you loose everything so be careful. When you...

Re: Success! :)
Congrats. One question though: you wrote you copied your data back to the c drive. What is a c drive? I vaguely remember having used something like that when I still used Windows, but since using Linux I don't have a c drive anymore. Sorry, could not resist. Maybe you can tell us something about you...

Re: Linux Mint 18 codenamed “Sarah”
Do you guys really use the name which is given to the distro? I never do that, I only use the version number, like 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 18. I'm not a Ubuntu fan, am using SolydK (based on Debian) right now, but what they do with the numbering system is simple but brilliant: year and month of release. S...

Re: Mint 18 KDE - please make Plasma 5 work properly in Mint 18
Strange you could not install OpenSuse. I have Leap 42.1 installed in a VM and the installation process is straight forward, I even chose 2 RAID 0 disks, one for / and one for /home. It is a very solid distro and it uses KDE 5, the one you like so much. Kdenlive has version 15.12.3. Is that new enou...

Re: KDE GUI Shutdown
When I click the Shutdown button in the Leave Tab, a small pop-up comes up in the middle of the screen. It has a 30-second countdown and a button to click to "Turn off the computer". When I click on it, it then gives me the option to "Suspend to RAM" or "Suspend to Disk&quo...

Re: Best way to back everything up & hardinfo
To start with your problem with dpkg: open a terminal and type: sudo dpkg --configure -a It will ask for your password, type it, followed bu Enter. Mind you, while typing your password you won't be seeing anything on screen, not even stars. For Back-up I use grsync. It is in the repositories so you ...

Re: HDD visible but not Mountable
In the first post I see that the disk is "only" 7.9GB in size. I wonder if that is enough to install MInt on it. When I look at my / disk I see it uses 9GB. When you also try to setup other partitions as well it does not leave enough space left for the OS. I assume that is why you get the ...

Re: How to make a launcher for an "Open with ..." program
Okay, what I'm confused about ... I browsed to this. And the \ is presumably there to escape the space. FTS, I'll copy it somewhere -- I've got almost 2TB Yes, the \ is to escape the next character but I always use the "-signs when a path or file name contains a space. Glad to see it now works...

Re: How to make a launcher for an "Open with ..." program
Maybe you can type the complete path and program name here since the picture does not show it completely. Are you sure you have pointed to the correct file to start the program? Something I don't like in Linux compared to Windows where a program has the name like program.exe. You always know the exe...

Re: Accidentally uninstalled Cinnamon desktop, can't boot up in Windows, either
I have used Pjotr's website many times, just to look up something but also after installing an OS again and setting things up the way I want it. I benefit from it, but I don't see myself as a newbie after using some kind of Linux for 8 years now. Before I knew about the existence of the website I wa...

They don't track & you can change settings.

Mint is based on Ubuntu, so when Ubuntu uses 5.5.5 then Mint will use 5.5.5
Sorry to disappoint you.
