Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

We'll see. Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

I think we have 2 cards down and 2 up. how this plays out is anybody's guess but if Jennifer offers a bet that MSFT buys out Canonical i'll have to fold. Mike, thank you for providing the contrast :D Let me link another piece from someone that actually worked on this bash on Windows thing: http://b...

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

Those possible plans, where not even the smallest hint exists? Not a base for any decision. I kind of agree that it might not yet be the time to be making a decision in regards to this topic. But lets not be blind that there do exist some hints. Its just not entirley certain how it will all pan out...

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

LMDE is definitely a fallback for Mint (Clem has said so himself) but I would be very surprised if Mint moved to a Debian base anytime soon. It would be very time-consuming for the team to switch, and (speculation here) Ubuntu would probably have to do some really drastic to make their code base un...

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

Not sure if we've ever crossed paths on here before, but... glad you are here, and yeah, I think you picked the right topic to re-enter with. Not sure either but thank you! and nice meeting you! I really like LM; however, I did briefly have Debian installed with the Cinnamon desktop, and it was not...

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

I don't consider Microsoft as a bad company (as compared in company-scale: charities - evil world dominators) and they have made good operating systems and software. Granted, current direction is crazy but they seem to be producing crazy on a very competent phase. Well, i respect your opinion so pl...

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

MintyO This is something that has crossed my mind too. But if those future resources will be available for Mint to draw from, it might be a good thing. With Mint's mission statement and the path followed so far, I see the clear #1 free linux OS (or even an ecosystem of platforms) for the masses. Kin...

Re: Ubuntu drops Unity and moves back to GNOME

Long time no see! :D  The topic issue made me want to post again..... I think, adding up news over the past year or two, that Mark Shuttleworth is going to sell off the whole thing. Maybe canonical will keep existing as a branch of the buyer. I think Microsoft will be the buyer. I could...

Re: Nvidia install on LMDE 2 64 bit Cinnamon (+wine 1.7.x)

Jennifer, if I may ask for a clarification: at the top of your tutorial you discuss the "recommended way of doing things", and supply some code that is simple enough even for myself. But all other such discussions I've ever seen require blacklisting the Nouveau driver also. Is this still necessary ...

Re: Nvidia install on LMDE 2 64 bit Cinnamon (+wine 1.7.x)

Revised the initial post and cleaned it up.

This method is now capable of performing at the same graphical quality level as games played on LM 17.x or windows.
(Its actually slightly faster on LMDE2 as compared to LM 17.x)

Than again, it would be kinda cool to have a installer image for my current setup... Easier for us non-dev types too. That is assuming you are willing to share your work, but you've been doing a bang-up job of that! And thanks for that BTW, in case anybody forgets. Aw that's sweet of you to say, th...

Re: LMDE2 and its future

Though using it is at your own risk, you could add the debian jessie backport repository. deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie-backports main It is actually pretty save to use, but.....ya.....sticking with the default repositories should proof to be the safest option..... The advantage thou...

Hi Crewp! I fully understand the resources thing in regards to development focus on 17.x and mint tools in general. ( but one may hope right? :D ) I like learning as you do and found that there is still enough to learn. I installed and maintained quite a few linux based servers and still do though i...

Re: LMDE2 after update boots to empty desktop

Sounds like , even your broken screen is being read by the configuration and probably been set to "primary" while the external screen is set as secondary. This probably changed after configuration of your video driver or setting up monitors, before that screens are often mirrored which could explain...

Debian Jessie Mint Edition 2 As you might know i am still looking into LMDE 2 to make it work for me on my home desktop which needs to be multipurpose. Re: Installing a free game - F.E.A.R. Combat

You are giving very little information. I looked up the game and found on the net that you eitehr download server or client for this game from the webpage. So i am not sure if you actually have a cd/dvd with the game on it. It could be you tried to install from a downloaded file. I know playonlinux ...
