Re: Linux and Facebook

That's a matter of opinion. I do not consider it safe to use Facebook but that has nothing to do with Linux or Windows.
In any case, Facebook is not inherently less safe on Linux than it is on Windows; if anything, it may be more so.

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon partition

To be clear: I was referring to /root as mentioned here: Some people suggested to reinstall, make a separate '/' of 60gb, '/swap' of 2xRAM, '/root' of 1 gb, '/boot' of 2 gb, and then create '/home' with rest of HDD space That mentions a partition named '/' and another named '/root' and that's not so...

Re: Open my file manager as root with a command line?

Doing such a thing is now prohibited by the desktop environment in later editions of Mint, and for good reason. You'll bork your configuration and other file permissions. Don't do it. Just to make this clearer: opening a graphical application (any application with a graphical GUI) with sudo by mean...

That seems to be a DVD, rather than a CD. For the simple reason that no current version of Mint fits on a CD.

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon partitition

The root partition is not called '/root'. It's simply called '/'. What is this '/root' you mentioned?

I have a string of LEDs connected to a remote switch and in the dark, when the pupils are wide, I can see them glowing just a bit.
I have that too. It's nice, it makes for just enough light to function as orientation lighting.

Is it still FUD if it spreads a feeling of fake security instead of fear, uncertainty and doubt?

Re: I need a plethora of technical help

Hello! I'm sure people here will be happy to try and help you with both of these issues. Please make it easier for them and try formulating your questions more clearly. And a separate thread for each issue, with a descriptive title that indicates the nature of the problem, would probably help.

Re: I'm out of patience.

I feel this is another place where I can express my opinion. It is, but it's not a support topic, so don't expect help here. Your other thread is a much better place for that. No one should be telling you that Linux is virus free. That's simply not true. Also it's possible to get hacked on a Linux ...

Which hardship exactly? If I found reading or replying in this forum hard, I'd hardly have become a moderator, now wouldn't I? In fact, I find it quite easy... here's a nice pic to show you how easy it is to post pictures here. There, that really brightens up a dreary topic! https://s14-eu5.startpag...

Re: Is Minx dead?

I'm starting to think whether installing Mint was a mistake. Your website is from the 90s, everything is outdated, there are so many bugs & it feels like they aren't going to be fixed. The website and the OS are very different things. I would not base my opinion about one of them on my opinion abou...

Well, not all the artworks. But yes, it seems that the damage was much smaller than it could have been, which is a great relief!

If anyone's in the mood for a good cry, watch one of the videos of the Parisians gathered to look at the fire, and then singing hymns together. Very touching.
