all forums strip extra space characters, and it infuriates me to no end.
Your browser strips extra space characters. Most of this thread revolves around that fact.

Re: how to make the best linux mint builds

Since you're new to this... maybe start off by using the OS for a while. Then you can learn how it works, and also see what you like and don't like about it.

No, you don't. Linux-based OSses do not get the same clutter that Windows gets.

Re: Installing

All I did - and this should be a simple task - was download an FTP program (Filezilla). Now, in Windows, I would just click on it to install, but that doesn't work (apart from it being unclear which file is the executable). In Windows, you'd have to go to the bother of locating and downloading the ...

Re: MS LifeCam VX-6000 how to install in cinnamon 'tara'

I obtained ALL the drivers from the MS website for this device but non are suitable for Linux! Not much of a surprise there. Microsoft make their own operating system, they're not likely to offer drivers for other ones. For that reason, not all hardware will work with Linux-based OSses. Blame the m...

The very short answer: you'll need to upload a suitable image at an image hosting site and enter the (HTTPS) URL for the image in your profile.
The longer answer can be found in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=90&t=267831

That includes keeping things friendly. It does not include telling others that they are whining or should g...

I have dual bot tablet Wind 10 + android. (Tbook 11 , Z8300 ) Want to remove every partition and install fresh windows and then ubuntu on second partition (free space) Ubuntu, or Mint? Anyway, the best way to know for sure whether Mint will work on a machine is to boot it from a USB drive. Which pr...

Re: Authentication password?

Is there an icon on your desktop that depicts a CD and is called 'Install Linux Mint'? If not, you have not installed Mint, just loaded the live environment which is not intended for permanent use. Most people just use it to try out the look and feel of Mint, see whether it works on their hardware, ...

Re: Calendar in Linux Mint

The calendar is not installed as default appearantly in 18.3. I can download it, but isn't it better to upgrade to system 19 for security updates? No, not per se and not for that reason. 18.3 is still supported so it is getting its security updates. Mint 19 offers new features and if you want those...

No biggie, we've all been new. But please take the time to read this. It's linked (in red, no less) from the top of every forum page for a reason.
