Re: Problem with Photobucket pictures

I posted an answer, and contrary to Moem's comment, what I said is still the reason you can't get a good download of the picture of interest. If you meant 'the new Photobucket rules in general, which also include anti-deeplinking measures which are a pain in the rear, are why you can't download the...

Re: GPT partition on LM

For many machines, pressing and holding SHIFT during the boot process will get them to GRUB. For a minority, the procedure consists of repeatedly pressing Escape.

They will not allow you to share a picture on any forum unless the account is a Paid Account.
all we see now is a huge horrible blob demanding money to see the picture.
That is true, but it's completely unrelated to the issue the OP is asking about.

Re: Desktop Security

I'm not sure why when this type of question comes up people aren't just pointed in the direction of a sudoers / visudo tutorial with an appropriate disclaimer to ensure they understand what they are doing before making changes. If you feel that that's the right answer, you should go ahead and give ...

Re: LM No boot

can't login to LM, as it does not load The instructions are for people who are having the exact same problem. It does not tell you to log in to Mint in the normal way; it tells you to press the ctl-alt-F1 keys and log in from the console . That means a black screen with white text, not the normal g...

Depending on your desktop environment, there may be an applet you can add to your panel which invokes xkill.

Well, we all consume a bit of a certain internet forum... I think we can call that a form of media.
(I otherwise agree.)

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

most of the Mods and experts in Mint who answer the questions, are not native English speakers nor British residents living in Great Britain, thus our humour is often lost on them. There's that, yes... and also, references to pop culture and media may fall flat as we don't all consume the same media.

Maybe you should start a thread about that, and explain why this is so.

What's 'syfi'? Is that a variant of 'sci-fi' or science fiction?

Re: Desktop Security

One of the things I find annoying about Linux is the need to enter my password multiple times in a session. I bet you're setting up your system, and for that reason, making many more changes than you'll usually do. Yeah? If that's the case, it's temporary. After all, Mint only requires a password w...

Ctrl+Alt+Upwards arrow key will get you into Expo mode, where you can click the plus sign at the right hand edge to add more workspaces. There is an applet available to get to Expo mode with one click if you prefer that.

Okay, so it's possible if you jump through a few hoops... I would not go so far as to call it easy. And I'm not convinced that this method completely avoids any and all Facebook tracking.

Re: OEM laptop control centers?

Are you asking about all possible laptops that have these features, or the specific one you're using? The latter will probably get you better results, because there is bound to be someone who has that same laptop. It seems unlikely to me that there is one generic solution for all laptops.

We helped you by answering your questions, several times and in several ways; we also helped you by suggesting other distros that might be a good fit for your hardware. I'd say we offered you a pretty fine solution. No current version of Firefox will install on Mint 12, or on XP for that matter. Old...
