Even adding something as simple as marking a topic solved, would be useful.
This is the only feature that has been discussed in this topic that I would welcome.

Re: About /home directory

And because I still need Windows, I think dualboot requires /home anyways, because at least for now, that's what I read. I don't understand this sentence at all, sorry. Using Linux always requires a /home. It can be a directory or a partition, but it needs to exist. my question is, if my /home is f...

Well, no, that was someone else's topic and it was several years old. The right place is right here: in a new topic that is all yours. :)

It's possible to do pretty much anything for fun. After all, people's opinions on what is and isn't fun vary immensely.

Re: Please Help Me Save My 17.3 Work Setup This Weekend :(:(

You could copy the entire home directory and then copy it into a new installation. If this fails, you can always go the manual way by doing a completely clean installation and copy just the files as needed. Be advised that - you will still need to install the software (but in case /home is retained,...

Re: About /home directory

Hello, 10GB for /home is really small and I suspect the tutorials you are looking for are quite old. Yes, user data (files and settings) get saved in /home so if you make it that small, you will not be able to store more than 10GB of files. I would generally recommend making / (root) 30 GB and give ...

Can you also please stop disabling BBcode in your replies?
It makes things look so messy.

If you can make a Mint USB stick, you can for a start use that to rescue your files and back them up to a second USB stick. Safety first.
Others will likely be able to help you further.

I thought a live Mint session runs off the USB or CD/DVD. If that's the case, won't RAM memory usage be higher as it runs programs?
It does and it will. A live session runs more or less completely in RAM, so of course it uses more of it than an installed Mint.

Re: Well the countdown has begun...

We never "fixed" elements, only replaced them. You probably could get those, yeah. It's 50 years later and the wrong country. We had to improvise. The €1,45 paid for a sheet of mica so we could add some insulation against short circuiting the wire; it was dangerously close to another meta...

Re: Well the countdown has begun...

how about a 1946 Singer sewing machine, a complete rewire needed. There was a 1911 Singer getting a new wooden base and to go on show though it could still work. A breadmaker, two blown thermal fuses, etc. etc... Keep the mind occupied. Repairing stuff is always satisfying and it's good for the min...

Re: how to get this to work

Major upgrades (like from 19.x to 20.x, not from 19.1 to 19.2) are actually pretty complicated, and newcomers are recommended to simply do a new installation in order to upgrade.
In other words, in this case it's definitely not on you.
