Solve it with this terminal command:

Code: Select all

chmod -v 700 $HOME
Repeat this in each user account that needs the same protection.
Interesting. What exactly is it that this command does?

Re: seamonkey browser problems

Odd... I have had no such problems with SeaMonkey. I'm using Noscript, HTTPSEverywhere, uBlock Origin (and some interface stuff). All working.

Have you tried Waterfox? It's closer to Firefox.

Re: "Please switch to another Linux Mint mirror. Your APT cache is corrupted"

Could you edit your original post and place the SOLVED in the Subject: line. The problem here is that Lakef isn't the topic starter, so... no, they can't. That's a clear disadvantage of piggybacking on an existing subject (and a fine reason why it's formally against forum rules to do so). I'll do i...

You can install a light OS and a light browser but the web itself is heavy these days. :?

Re: Why Linux Mint?

Why Mint, why Cinnamon? Both of them are rather popular, so they apparently fill a need. I use them because they are the first OS and DE I ran into (when I went looking) that immediately felt like something I could use. They felt understandable and friendly to me, as a newcomer. And I had no reason ...

Re: Is it possible to install LM 19 over LM 18.3 without removing the older version

We've been informed that there will be an upgrade path to do an inplace upgrade from 18.3 to 19. That is not an installation, as such, but it may still be what you're looking for.

Re: Paint JPG

There are tons. Open up your Software Manager, enter the word 'paint' and you'll find more than ten. My favourite is Pinta. Friend, you're not on Windows anymore. :) No need to hunt for downloads all over the web or look them up in computer magazines, the Software Manager offers enough to keep you b...

Re: Should I try Cinnamon ?

I would not install it at all. I would download it, make a bootable USB stick, boot my computer from that and then test it like that. If it's too heavy for the hardware, you will know... and your current MATE installation will be intact.

Re: Should I try Cinnamon ?

If I were you, I'd try it out from a USB stick... but I predict that it will be a bit on the heavy side for 2GB and it may well feel a bit slow and sluggish.

Giving support using a blog is not very common.
You were giving feedback, right? Not asking for support, as I understood it.

Re: Shutter have dependencies problem in Linux Mint 19

I just found a issue and wanted to report it. I can't understan why it should be a problem. You're missing the point: you can't report beta bugs in this forum, it's the wrong place. And you can't expect support for beta issues here, either. So it was redundant to post your issue on the forum. That'...

I also posted this somewhere else but got no response, so I thought of posting it here.(maybe not allowed..?) Double-posting is not allowed, but no worries, I've removed the other posting. I would however advise that you always mention which desktop environment is being used (in this case Cinnamon).

Re: Nerdy types dismissing Linux Mint.

Although I have heard good things about Linux Lite, I never tried it. I have. It looks nice and polished on the surface, but as soon as you need to do any digging, that polish ends right then and there. And there's a distinct lack of support. Probably simply too few users. I can see myself putting ...
