Re: What happened? Site was GONE.

I can't reproduce that. The Linux Mint site and forum are both up for me, as normal.

rightnow with the nouveau drivers you don't have hardware acceleration, you will get an advantage when playing videos or youtubes.
I'm not planning to use this machine for that, or for gaming. But it's worth a try.

install nvidia graphics 340 from the driver manager and you'll get a 100% boost
In what? It's working fine with the Nouveau driver, but I still might try it if there's a clear advantage to be expected.

Re: [SOLVED] Running in software rendering mode

People often give me old mobos or cards if they are an interesting colour, because they know I like to make stuff from circuit board... This one was lucky and got a new job instead of being sawed into pieces!

Oh, and Cinnamon seems to be running pretty fine on this old rig.

The question is pertains to Cinnamon - does it not?
It does, but not to Cinnamon on the main edition. LMDE is not 'main edition'. So questions about Cinnamon on LMDE go under LMDE.

Removing critical parts of your operating system is not a bug, it's user error. Linux gives you the freedom to do things that will break stuff.

This particular MacBook has 64 bit processor and 32 bot EFI. That's a well known fact. It definitely will not boot a 64 bit iso.
Not even if you add a 32-bits EFI file to the USB drive by hand?

Cinnamon is too demanding for that graphic card. Try Mate or XFce.
Thank you, that's certainly an option. I assume it could also be resolved by swapping out the graphic card for a better one?

Re: Running in software rendering mode

Thanks. I do not have the knowledge to do anything with that, but perhaps someone else here does. By the way, the software rendering mode happened while running the live session, directly after installation and after updating too.

[SOLVED] Running in software rendering mode

Hi all, The desktop computer as described in the inxi output below has Cinnamon running in software rendering mode. The driver manager is not offering anything. I'm not sure what to do next. I'd appreciate pointers. Thanks! moem@pjoeter:~$ inxi -Fxz System: Host: Pjoeter Kernel: 4.15.0-38-generic x8...

(for the firewall, you should instal the graphical gufw from Software Manager)
On Mint 19, it comes pre-installed. It just needs to be switched on.

Re: Is Linuxing easy?

Is putting Mint onto the laptop really as simple as putting the USB into it and sitting back to watch the magic happen? Will it install everything it needs automatically? Will I have time to make coffee while it does? Hello Dave! Linuxing can be pretty much as hard as you want to make it, but it ca...

Cinnamon on a 2005 single core computer? Definitely do a clean reinstall of the Xfce or Mate versions.
