Yes it was the launcher Changed the command and now it works. No Idea what happened. I think it might be because I installed from a .deb file.
Correct command is /opt/google/..... ghosts in the machine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping I could fix. Seems like a launcher problem. Time to play. If not I will delete and re-install.

On May 01 Google Earth got updated by update manager. Now it wont start on my computer. Click on the menu - Internet - Google Earth and nothing. Re-installed just to try and still nothing. This has been asked before. Why is it a bad thing to roll back a package to a previous version? The apt-get command says it can be done but may be dangerous. When a package gets updated, it must remove the earlier package somewhere in the process no? Or only the changes in the package get installed?...
