[Solved] New Bluetooth Speaker- No Output

I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules here, but I want to share my success with a new bluetooth speaker. I struggled with it for two days and thought I was going to have to return it to Amazon. Using a borrowed "Jam Plus" bluetooth speaker, I was able to set it up and play tunes on it pretty easil...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

hello, I bought a thinkpad laptop cheap just to learn how to use linux on, tried ubuntu on a dual boot on my pc, that was enough to convince me to learn how to use it 'properly' - don't dual boot would be my recommendation, put it solely on a machine to learn from if you can That's a great suggesti...

Re: I have/like Mint- but...WHY? What was the point??

Lots of good reasons for choosing/using Mint already posted in this thread, and many excellent points covered. lexon said, "I figured the OP was just a Troll by the message." Could be. Even so, the OP kicked off an interesting thread. And I noticed a very recent post from cecilieaux and decided to c...

Re: How to change refresh rate in cinnamon?

Thanks for your reply. I have run "sudo amdcccle", in fact the amd control panel needs to be run under root in order to change the refresh and resolution, otherwise they are greyed out. Weird, I know. However, this does not survive a log out and log in. The log in screen does operate at 144Hz, howe...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

As the OP stated his first love is Debian 7, since I agree also, I suggest you try LMDE2, it's Debian stable as a base with all the Linux Mint tools and goodies, making a wonderful OS. :D Hi Crewp, I think you were referring to my post where I mentioned Debian 7... I still use it often, usually dai...

Re: Thank you to those supporting others here!

Flemur and especialy Habitual just helped me join the Arch Linux forums. Thanks, guys! Wow! I didn't know there was another Arch Linux geek on this forum. Did you install Arch? I installed Arch on a USB thumb drive and in VirtualBox and on an eldery PC. Mostly for the challenge and to learn more ab...

Re: Unable to Install Linux Mint Cinnamon

Hi, I see some bugs in mate. The display gets off even if I chose the option as Never. Also, the display brightness keeps on changing even if I kept it low. A lil annoying it is. Have anyone faced the same? If so, how to fix it? pdh21 has provided more in-depth answers to you than what I can offer....

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

Thanks to you both, Mr October (is that a reference to baseball?) and Oracle, for your welcome messages. By the way, I just finished installing Mint 17.2 on a Thinkpad T61 and restarting into Mint as I write this. It is so tempting to bash Windows, and I've been guilty many times. I think Win 8/10, ...

Re: Unable to Install Linux Mint Cinnamon

Hope this helps. Are you sure the USB device is bootable? Did you use something like Unetbootin to create the USB bootable USB, or did you just copy the .iso file onto the device? I have an older Asus laptop, and there is a setting in the BIOS to place the USB device at the top of the boot device or...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

First, let me say "Howdy from The Great State of Texas!" As my user name might suggest, I live in Texas. The "brew" in texbrew points to the fact that I'm a home brewer (beer) and it's legal in the US. I must confess I'm out of practice in that art form as computers and linux have captured my intere...
