Cannot use caja on network locations while remote

I am using ssh to forward caja to a remote desktop and while doing so cannot use caja on any network location. It fails with the message "caja cannot handle ___ locations" where ___ is sftp, smb, or network. Is this a limitation of caja that it can't connect to a network location while displaying re...

Am I missing something?

I have Mint/Mate installed on my main computer, and have Mint/Cinnamon installed on my old laptop which is now my ham shack computer. Both of them are via VirtualBox. I have actually just switched my shack computer to Mate. Before I actually remove Cinnamon, though, I am wondering if I have been mis...

Re: Problems switching Cinnamon->Mate

What a simple solution. I had just assumed that it was required for Vino to be in the chain because Gnome. I have no need of a VNC server, so gone it is and Mate now loads up beautifully. I had been pulling my hair out, since the only reference to this that I could see was here , and there was no re...

Re: Problems switching Cinnamon->Mate

Yes, I can still log in with Cinnamon with no trouble. I created a new user, one that had never logged into Cinnamon, just in case that was an issue, and it still couldn't log in. Here is the syslog output from that attempt. Notable are systemd failing repeatedly, and: Dec 9 20:35:16 GlitchV2 mate-s...

Re: purge-old-kernels removed in 19, autoremove not working

Actually, apt-get autoremove does work to remove old kernels. The problem was that it wouldn't automatically remove any kernels which had been installed prior to the Mint 19 upgrade. Once enough kernel upgrades were performed post upgrade that all the pre-upgrade kernels were gone (manually removed)...

[SOLVED] Problems switching Cinnamon->Mate

I have finally grown fed up with Cinnamon and am trying to switch to mate. I stopped my desktop, logged into a pty and used apt-get to install mint-meta-mate. After a reboot, Mate correctly appeared in the list of window managers for LightDM. Attempting to log into it, though, causes the screen to g...

Re: purge-old-kernels removed in 19, autoremove not working

i had to read this three or four times to figure out just what you were asking...first off, apt-get autoremove AKA sudo apt autoremove is not a kernel remover I'm not an apt guru. What I know is this. There is a purge-old-kernels script as part of the byobu package. It worked fantastic - it would a...

[SOLVED] purge-old-kernels removed in 19, autoremove not working

In Mint 19 the purge-old-kernels script, which was a fantastic way of pruning old kernels, was replaced and is basically just an alias now for apt-get autoremove. However, I am finding on my Mint 19 installation, that apt-get autoremove still completely fails to remove old kernels. The purge-old-ker...

Re: Linux Mint experience so far

Mint 17.2 runs fine on the Lenovo and has been doing so for months... My HP Pavillion has been running Mint 18.1 64-bit for a while now and the only problem... I have always had a good experience with running Mint in a virtual machine. An approach that is growing in popularity is to run your main O...

Mint 19 Upgrade - Error Workarounds

I just upgraded a Linux Mint virtual machine (VirtualBox on Windows host) from Mint 18.3 -> 19. I was able to do it successfully, but it took two tries and I had to work around a couple of install errors and one mintupgrade bug. In my case my Mint VM has a fairly small footprint (only 16G), so resto...

Re: Seamless mode breaks on Mint 18.3 guest after kernel update

Self-solved. Linux kernel 4.15 and versions of vbox prior to 5.2.8 do not interact nicely, it seems. Upgrading vbox corrected the problem.

Seamless mode breaks on Mint 18.3 guest after kernel update

I just installed a new kernel, suggested by Mint Update as a security release, and it breaks seamless mode. The Virtualbox additions are loaded and running, and they seem to perform other functions properly, but seamless mode no longer functions. I am running Mint 18.3 and just upgraded from kernel ...

Re: [Solved] mintupdate update wants to uninstall all virtualbox-guest packages

I went ahead and updated mintupdate, which removed all my VirtualBox guest packages, and now I can't re-add those packages without uninstalling mintupdate. This is rather frustrating - who was it that decided mintupdate and VirtualBox guest were incompatible? I can no longer run my Mint guest in sea...

Re: Intel HD3000 drivers how?

Is there a specific problem or error you got that leads you to think you need another driver? Thanks for all the info. The problem I'm having is in getting Fosphor to work. I'm thinking it may be related to OpenCL rather than the graphics drivers. I continue to work the problem. Though if you know ...

Are transparent title bars coming to Cinnamon?

Topic really says it all - I'm curious if transparent title bar support (and intrinsic configuration support for transparency in general) is coming to Cinnamon any time soon? I like Cinnamon in general, but I find that for more than aesthetic reasons I really miss my transparent title bars when comi...

Re: <SOLVED> FDE Dual Boot Trouble - No boot password.

The reason why Grub overwrote the VeraCrypt boot loader was because you let it get installed in the MBA (/dev/sda) rather than in the /boot partition. This is unnecessary and dangerous, as every time you try and update Grub, it is going to overwrite the MBA (and VeraCrypt's boot loader) all over aga...

Intel HD3000 drivers how?

Hello all,

I'm trying to get OpenGL working on my new Mint 17.3 install for an Intel HD3000 (Intel Core i3-2350 intrinsic adapter). There is absolutely nothing shown on the Driver Manager window when it is run. How do I get hardware OpenGL support?

Thanks
