Nvidia Optimus (Intel and Nvidia Enabled Installation)

Hi Everyone, It has been a while. Linux Mint team is pumping out lots of good stuff and the world is starting to recognize Linux. :-) I have something interensting. I have tried this on Mint Cinnamon 21 and 21.1. After I install the latest availabe Nvidia driver (525 - recommended) through the Drive...

A Real Email Client

Hi Everyone. One thing I get, when I show everyone how easy Mint-Cinnamon is to use, is does it have outlook. I tell them it has Thunderbird. However, some also use 2FA for their email and that is becoming an issue. Additionally, some would like to use it with their corporate email system but M$ mak...

[UNSOLVED] [GAVE UP] Opera won't play Amazon DRM.

Hi everyone, Opera, and Chromium for that matter, won't play DRM on Amazon. Brave and Firefox have no issues. What is the fix. I have found countless "solutions" that are convoluted and don't work. Thank you in advance. System: LM 20.2 with all updates. Also: most current available Opera a...

Re: Network connection issue

On the same machine with the 2.5 gigabit network card, if I connect a usb-gigabit adapter it will find the NAS shares. Really strange. I assume you have normal internet access with the 2.5 gigabit network card? I suspect this is the problem, not how you connect to the NAS, but... How are you trying...

SOME CRITICISM -- Network connection issue

You can read my original post below. Clem and the Linux Mint team deserve some criticism for the lack of action on getting an integral part of any OS (networking). Based on my observations that I note in the initial post, I think that there is a lot of lazyness from the coding group as well as from ...

[UN-SOLVED but SOLVED] Shared drives on one computer but not another

Doesn't seem as though anyone who looked at this post was either interested or they had no ideas as to the cause. I will have to look around the internet to find the real cause for why my 2.5gig Intel NIC won't auto-discover my network shares from my Synology NAS. I did find the issue though. It is ...

Biometrics

Hi Mint Team.

Can there be an implementation of the fingerprint biometrics in Mint?

Many computers have a fingerprint reader and it would be nice to be able to use that for login and other authentication.

Re: cant boot to mint after windows update

I have a laptop that has two drive bays so I installed a drive in each and used the boot menu (F12 in my case) at post so I could choose the drive I want to boot from. Most laptops have this option - but with newer ones you have to be fast. With that same method you could also boot to usb drive if t...

Re: Will Linux Mint use the Big Brother installer?

@ Kadaitcha Man Ok, I get that. Thank you for the insight. I admit that basically everyone contributes to kernel. To be honest, that is the whole point of open source. So, in that respect, I humbly stand corrected. I suspect much of their contribution also serves their use of Linux on their systems ...

Re: Will Linux Mint use the Big Brother installer?

I didn't know that (@ Post by Kadaitcha Man) Based on all the years of posts, in the Linux Mint news pages, I presumed that Mint was maintained by contributors and also that thousands of independent contributors worked with The Linux Foundation. So, I looked for proof of what you just said but only ...

Re: NVidia Driver

Sorry for the late reply SMG. I have been working too many hours (in today's world that is a good thing) and didn't get a chance to check this forum. Thank you for your insight. For some strange reason, I think it may be an issue with just that card because I have also had success with a GT 710. Go ...

Will Linux Mint use the Big Brother installer? (Kind-of)

Hello everyone. I just heard the upcoming Ubuntu will use a new installer based on Flutter (created by big brother Google). Will Mint find a way to use a different installer and scrutinize the code to ensure its not logging "anonymous" information? I love Mint so I feel a bit protective of...

Re: NVidia Driver

As the beginning of the post says, "NVidia Driver" so it is not an issue with the on-board graphics. By the latest Ubuntu, that I mentioned in the previous post, I mean Ubuntu 20.04LTS (that is the latest LTS version and the one that the current Mint is based on). I referenced that I loade...

Re: Synology NAS is gone in Mint

One thing that did work was to go straight to the IP address using smb. For example: "SMB://100.100.100.100/<share name>/" [with my actual IP address for the NAS of course. LOL] When I used this option I was able to get the credentials prompt and it went straight into the share. Okay, yes...

Re: Synology NAS is gone in Mint

Does ping -c3 <mynas>.local also not work? If not you may be running into the by now well-known issue of Avahi at some point simply stopping to respond. For me the issue has nullified really any utility of mDNS on Linux. If the ping does work it's something else... @rene: Thank you very much for yo...

[SOLVED] Synology NAS is gone in Mint

Why is it that one day - with no changes - I could access my new Synology NAS and the next day I can't? Microsoft Windows works flawlessly with accessing the nas. ALL of the necessary file services are running AFP/NSF/SMB/Bonjoure, etc., etc., etc. Nothing shows in Mint any more. (Mint Cin. 20.1 - w...

Thank you for the info SMG. So I basically have the latest and greatest of everything. I installed the current LTS version of Ubuntu with no issue. NVidia Driver [RESOLVED]

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well and hopefully see a bit more of a move to normal life. I know that has probably been covered a million times so I will try and be specific about something. Intel i225-V 2.5G NIC not working [RESOLVED]

Hello everyone, MY new ASUS ProArt Z490-CREATOR board works basically fine with LM20 except for networking. I wasn't going to use the 10G NIC because it would be a wast until I upgrade my network. So I figured I would use the built-in NICm which is the Intel i225-V. NO GO. Any complete solutions? I ...
